Long Yellow Straw

MarciaKat
Even missing a button
I wear my husband's
well abused blue shirt
waiting for mine to dry
on the clothesline next to
sheets and pillowcases.

Swinging in my hammock
listening to the wind whistle
I watch the children
crafting people from clothespins
sucking in their pink lips
in moments of concentration.

The dog's black fur
shining in a warm ray
of sunlight beaming across
the tops of cornstalks
coaxing the hunger
of sunbathing crows.

Enjoying life slowly
like bits of melting ice
in my mason jar of
sun tea with just a
shake of fine sugar and
a long yellow straw.
