Longs Drugs is the Best Drugstore Chain on the West Coast

Zachary Fruhling
Barely a day passes that I do not find myself taking a quick trip down to the local Longs Drugs store. Longs Drugs is the most versatile and all-encompassing drugstore chain on the west coast of the United States, and perhaps in the entire country. Far from being merely a store that sells pharmaceutical products, Longs Drugs is truly a one-stop shopping experience that has most everything one needs to buy in a single location without the big-box feel of other stores like Walmart or Walgreens.

Longs does indeed have a full-service pharmacy offering a complete supply of over the counter drugs and pharmacists who can fill prescription drug prescriptions from your doctor. I have found the pharmacists at Longs Drugs to be quite knowledgeable about the latest medicines and very careful to ensure that there are no unintended drug interactions when you are taking more than one medication. As for their over the counter drugs, Longs Drugs offers their own store brand which is markedly cheaper than most name brand products but are just as effective using the same active ingredients. My wife and I often purchase the Longs Drugs equivalent for Advil or for Claritin at a significantly cheaper price than their name brand counterparts.

In addition to a pharmacy, most Longs Drugs location also have a full service mailing center for customers to ship packages via the United States Postal Service or via UPS or FedEx. Since I do quite a bit of mailing, I find myself running to Longs Drugs quite often to mail packages and/or to pick up the packaging supplies I need for my mailing. The mailing center at Longs Drugs doubles as a photo processing center, and Longs Drugs is also an excellent place to get ones photos developed or transferred from film to a digital storage medium. I recently got some pictures developed from a recent camping trip at Longs Drugs, and for a very reasonable price I received double prints and a compact disc containing digital copies of all my photos so I can email them to friends and family.

Longs Drugs also offers an adequate supply of various household and personal care products. I regularly visit Longs Drugs for basic household staples like toilet paper, shampoo, deodorant, shaving cream, etc. Longs Drugs also has cleaning products like laundry detergent and dish soap. While Longs Drugs is not a grocery store per se, Longs Drugs does offer a variety of packaged food items and even a basic assortment of refrigerated food items in a refrigerated glass case. The prices for food items do not really compare with the discount food prices that one can get at a major supermarket, if you happen to need something particular and are already at Longs, then it is convenient just to grab it at Longs Drugs rather than making a trip to another store for a lower price.

In conclusion, Longs Drugs has most everything one could need all in one place, but it is significantly smaller and quainter than the big-box stores like Walmart and Walgreens. From photo processing to pharmacology, Longs Drugs covers all the bases and offers a pleasant shopping experience for all your household staples.

I am very dissappointed in Long's having been a customer of theirs in Sacramento, CA for over 25 years, everytime you find a product you like there it seems all at once they do not have it any longer and no one can tell you if they will ever have it again. I just don't have the time to always go searching for something of the same item all over town. I just like to know that when I run out and need to replenish the item I would like to just walk in their store and buy it.
