Participants in the 33rd annual Birmingham Lions Club Leader Dog Run at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, may find themselves being forced to concentrate amid all the beautiful scenery.

Routes for the 5K and 10K events will begin in downtown Birmingham and wind through picture-postcard residential areas.

Participants need not feel they are required to run the long distances. Anybody who walks for a spell and collects pledges is welcome. The registration fee for runners is $25.

Leader Dogs for the Blind, based in Rochester Hills, was founded by three Detroit-area Lions Club members in 1939. Each year, the project trains 270 dogs and pairs them with people who are blind or visually impaired in order to enhance mobility, safety, independence and quality of life.

More information on the Birmingham Lions Club Leader Dog Run is available at (248) 354-1177.
