Look Better and Take Care of Yourself Naturally

Glynis Jolly
Whether we want to admit or not, our society is hooked on judging people by the way they look. This seems to be especially true for women. It's sad but true. This doesn't mean that you have to look like a super model in order to be noticed though. This judging of the surface is more for that first time meeting. It gives the person an idea of what the answers would be to the following questions:

Does she take care of herself?
Is she neat and tidy?
Does she have issues that I'd rather not deal with?

Paying attention to how you appear will more likely give the favorable answers to these questions.

Your Hair
It use to be that women washed their hair about once a week. Many went to a salon to have it done. But that was when most women were wearing their hair up and with a lot of curls for good measure. This meant the use of chemical products that would help hold curls tight and keep the hair in place at the crown of the head. A lot has changed since then, yet women are reluctant to let go of those chemicals and, on top of that, are washing their hair every day. Yes, your hair is squeaky clean but in the process, you've exposed the cuticle. It's better to wash your hair about every third day and let it dry naturally if at all possible.

Your Face
I'm sure most of you have a busy schedule that may make you feel that you can skip washing your face either in the morning or before you go to bed at night. Well, you can but don't. In fact, you should use a scrub on your face one of those two times to make sure that you're getting the old cells off and stimulating the new ones. I use an apricot scrub and use a gentle generic soup. After washing your face, be sure to apply a protective moisturizing lotion or cream. There's some good ones out there even for oily skin. It will also make your makeup go on much smoother. Be sure to put some on your eyelids too.

When applying your makeup, start with the neck and move up, always smoothing the makeup upward and inward. This massages the face in such a way to prevent premature sagging. Be sure to apply makeup to your eyelids before any shadow to assure the shadow color you want. Use all makeup sparingly. It's there to enhance your beauty.

Your Body
I think anyone who reads magazines or watches TV knows that in order for your body to look good, you need enough sleep and exercise. Most health professionals will say that seven hours of sleep should be the minimum and twenty minutes of daily exercise is needed to stay healthy.

Many women of today's society are in the process of ruining their body through trendy diets in an effort to lose weight. The diet may work for you but chances are that you're going to pay for it later with at least one of a host of problems connected with your digestive system. Health professionals will tell you to just eat sensibly but what does that mean? If you look in your silverware drawer, you'll see the large serving spoons. Don't mistake the soupspoon for being the largest. That big serving spoon is about one serving of food. It isn't foolproof but it makes an excellent guide. If your serving of one food is larger than what will fit in that spoon, it's probably too much. Do you still feel like you need to lose weight? So that you don't do harm to your body, talk to your doctor about what type of diet is right for you. Just because a weight loss strategy worked for a friend, it doesn't mean it will work for you.

Your Mind-Set
Do you basically like yourself? It will show up in the way you look. I have found that spending just a half hour in meditational prayer each day helps me like myself more. I am told that it does show up in how I look to others. If you aren't one for prayer, there are ways to meditate without religion. You can find out more about meditation at http://nccam.nih.gov/health/meditation/.

By doing things that are positive for your hair, face, body, and mind you can really make a difference in how you look. Looking good naturally doesn't takes very much time from your daily schedule either.

This is excellent well written advice. You've hit the nail on the head with this - especially regarding hair washing. Years ago people didn't need conditioner, and they brushed their hair to condition it with the natural oils from the scalp. Very good job as usual, Glynis!

Fantastic advice Glynis! It seems like I never have time to do even the "basics" anymore. :)
