Look Busy at Work

J John
Having tea at the pantry with fellow colleagues....each discussing the load they are carrying...and you are lost as you are currently assigned no responsibility and you don't want to look left out. So friends, this is what happened to me once, and then and there on I decided at least to look busy, even though I was not. Pretending to look full of activity will be a fun activity, but at the same time, word of caution, Never Over Pretend.....Let's get started then...

Punctuality: Always come to office on time, not too early, though if you are free, you should stay late.

Initiation: The first thing is always either system starting or opening of your files, which you already have in your work drawer. When you start your system, open your Mailbox and read all the mails that have poured in your inbox that day. Then you can open as many windows of websites which can include your e papers, informative websites, blogs and trading pages and so on, such that they form a stack and look as if you have lots to search and work on. Also one can open the many number of application, which are otherwise used for work.

Cup of Coffee: Get a cup of coffee or tea at your desk once or twice a day, which will make people believe that you are working hard and you need some boost drink to keep you going through the work.

Reading helps: Always keep reading a file or a softcopy on your system and put on a busy look on your face as in you are reading and trying to analyze and deduct out of the article. (If you like reading, you can prefer your material, but I will always suggest reading something which could be beneficial to you and of which you can gain some knowledge and build awareness.) Also always look out for your Big Boss, if one is around, create a furious activity scene around you.

Notepad is must: Always carry a notepad with you, to pretend that you are supposed to be in a place where you need to take down some points and when back at desk, keep it open, to show that work is in progress.

Ask a lot queries: Whenever in discussion, always ask a lot questions, this will show that you have been working hard on the same and have interest in it.

Busy status: If you have a communicator, you should always keep the profile status as 'busy', so that fellows do not bother you thinking you are seriously involved in some work activity.

Walk Fast: Walk fast whenever you are going somewhere, as if something really important is happening and you need to be present there.

Networking: Have healthy and lengthy conversation with your fellow colleagues, but not around or near to your work area. This is the best time, for building strong network across the organization. You can always visit your friends in other sections or departments.

Personal Conversations: Take your personal telephone calls, away from your work space.

Pretending to be busy is a game and should be played with an alert mind. If well played, you will enjoy it. Also remember, if work is allocated, one should always do it on time and well. Work should never be ignored and never show your back to it. Another Word of Caution, if your boss is smarter...REFRAIN!!!
