There are a few things you can look for in your partner to see if maybe there is a hearing loss. Many people do not want to admit they are having hearing problems and it helps ease them into the idea that maybe something is wrong, that it is not their fault and there are many ways to help correct hearing loss.
For instance, if your significant other is starting to claim that they did not hear you. It helps to address them head on and let them see you speak. Look for subtle ways to see if your significant other has heard you by giving you the right responses or if they acknowledge what you said at all.
If your significant other starts ignoring you, it may not be because they are tuning you out, or being rude. It could be the first sign of a hearing loss problem. At first this may lead to feelings of frustration and feeling that what you have to say is not important. You can try to start saying common phrases in a low whisper and gradually increase the volume of your voice till the point you actually get a response. This is a simple way to check if your significant other is having a hard time hearing you.
Before frustrations kick in and communication starts lacking it's important to get a proper diagnosis of hearing loss. Some hearing loss problems can be reversed while others can stop the progression of increased hearing loss as long as your significant other received medical attention.
