Look Out Red Sox: Andy Pettite Is Back

Daniel Rein
Today, December 8 shall live in infamy in the lives of Yankees fans around the nation and in New York. Andy Pettite decided to come back to his original home in New York where he played for almost his entire career. He was drafted by the Yankees and brought them

Andy Pettite signed a one year 16 million dollar deal with an option for the 2008 season. Andy Pettite will have that choice if he wants to return after this upcoming season if over. Andy Pettite had pitched for the Houston Astros and had some of his best statistical seasons of his career. The lefty posted career highs in ERA and strikeouts while being mentored Roger Clemens. Now, there are even rumors that Roger Clemens might follow in Andy Pettite's footsteps and come back to the Bronx in New York.

Andy Pettite's agent had told the Houston Astros that if they offered him a 14 million dollar deal with a player option for a second year, Pettite would have signed with the Astros. However, they refused to budge on a 12 million dollar offer they had extended to Pettite.

Andy Pettite pitched for the Yankees from 1995 to 2003. He had spent 3 years in Houston. He is 34 years of age and last year in the second half of the season his ERA was 2.0 which is amazing. ESPN analysts state that Pettite is healthier than ever and Roger Clemens is an intriguing option and could decide to come back to New York. Clemens wants to go to a winner and the Yankees certainly fit the bill.

In the American East division in baseball, there are many great hitters such as Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Frank Thomas and Miguel Tejada. A lefty pitcher is exactly what the Yankees need.

In addition, Pettite has a great track record with the Yankees and he is one of the great Yankees and is on the list with the captain Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada as the true Yankees. I am hoping that Pettite can bring that Yankee awe and pride back to the Bronx and for another championship. Although Pettite only finished with a 14-13 record, that was very deceiving because the Astros were one of the worst teams in scoring runs and his ERA was only 4.20 which is not bad at all. As a lefty pitcher, look for his numbers to be even better because lefty pitchers excel at Yankee stadium. The Yankees also have one of the best lineups in baseball and Pettite's record will improve dramatically.

The Yankees pitching rotation could possibly be the best in baseball and will look like this: Chien Ming Wang, Mike Mussina, Andy Pettite, Randy Johnson and possibly Roger Clemens. If Clemens does not come to the Bronx, then Carl Pavano if he stays healthy of the Japanese pitcher who the Yankees won the rights for, will be the fifth pitcher for the Yankees.

This could finally be the year that the Yankees win the World Series for the first time in years.

"He was drafted by the Yankees and brought them"

    What did he bring them?

"If Clemens does not come to the Bronx, then Carl Pavano if he stays healthy of the Japanese pitcher who the Yankees won the rights for, will be the fifth pitcher for the Yankees."

Someone please rewrite this sentance. As written it's nonsensical.

"The Red Sox are in panic mode"

    Please explain this.

Overall, this would be a very good writing sample from a 7th grade student.
