Look Younger with These Fashion Tips for Seniors

Did you realize that you can look more youthful and attractive by dressing in a way that is age-appropriate? The secret, although ironic, is that trying to dress too youthfully can actually give you an aging appearance. These fashion tips for seniors will help you energize your look and avoid looking your age.

1. Stay away from black, no matter how tempting! While your younger daughter may look elegant and sophisticated in black, usually an older woman looks like a grieving widow. Everything that black does for a younger woman works in reverse for an older woman. If you will think for a moment, younger women wear black to look more mature and sophisticated. There just comes a point where we don't want to look more mature.

2. Save your blue jeans for horseback riding. They are just not the most attractive pants for a senior woman to wear. Jeans have been the trademark of youth for so long. While fit middle-aged women can pull off a well-fitted pair of jeans, they don't work so well for a woman of a certain age. They just seem to underline the fact that you are older. They also can make you look silly, as though you are trying to recapture your youth.

3. Cover up a little. Nobody needs to see your flapping upper arms. Sleeveless tops and dresses should not be worn in public. And, for goodness sake, not strapless tops and dresses! If you have a bad chicken neck and crinkly decollete, a higher neckline can do a lot to camouflage your age.

4. Don't be afraid of color. Choose colors you might have avoided when you were younger. A beautiful aqua or bright peach can give your face a youthful glow. Choose prints and florals that are upbeat and cheerful. Avoid gray. Classic looks are basically ageless and timeless, but you are not. Gray also draws attention to any stray gray hairs you may have.

5. Choose ensembles instead of separates. A nice pair of pants and matching camp shirt look so much more pulled together and stylish than a pair of slacks and a tee-shirt top. Stay away from traditional blazers and suits, as these can have a staid, stiff effect. However, you want the continuity of a streamlined look to present a more sleek profile. This tends to obliterate the bumps and humps that we all get as we get older.

6. If you have trouble finding age-appropriate clothing, consider the shopping venues on television. They cater to a more mature clientele, and they usually offer a wider range of sizes. It is also convenient if you have disabilities that keep you from being able to shop extensively outside the home.

7. Dress comfortably. If you are miserable, it shows in an unattractive way on your face. Don't wear things that are too tight, hot, itchy, or otherwise. You have earned the right to be comfortable, and you will be much more relaxed and appealing if you are.

if you follow these fashion tips for seniors, you will be presenting a more youthful appearance wherever you go.

I am troubled by the author's constant negative comments, in regards to the mature woman's body and "allowable" wardrobe, though quite clearly, only HER opinion. It is a fact that we all come in different shapes and sizes and are not "one size fits all" I find this article insulting and highly offensive .

There are countless young women who cannot and should not be wearing "trendy" clothing, as well . In addition, MANY should not be wearing jeans and frankly look sloppy, "poured" into their jeans and their overall message appears to be "I do not value myself " and appear to be seeking "attention". The attention they attract, however is more likely to be negative and impact their self esteem and confidence level. Please use your literary skills and "knowledge" of how one should dress age appropriate ly and address these issues.

The mature "older" woman of 2011, has her own style and most
