I used to think I believed in Bush. We all did, and while I think he kept us safe for seven years. I can't say that I agree with everything he said or did. While I believe family values and economic growth are vital for a healthy society, I had suggested that we lower corporate taxes to combat the economic disadvantage of starting a business in America, which include the strict standards here in America that other countries, mainly China, don't have.
For example, China doesn't have strict ecological standards. In fact in one town in China, women became barren after drinking the local water and moved to the cities to become prostitutes. Is this the global economy we dreamed of? I am sorry, I don't think this is right in any way. Also, child labor in developing countries is common to the point that it is dangerous and they can become harmed in the process.
OSHA protects Americans from the horrible working conditions of China. People in China work until they only have elbows to lift boxes. What happens after that, is probably not very good. Let us pray for better working conditions for the Chinese. I grew up with a friend who was Chinese. I only pray that she didn't have to know anyone personally who was hurt like this.
Life may not be fair, as John F. Kennedy once said, but I don't think that we can solve all our problems in America by buying cheap imports from China. Even American flags are made in China. If we had actual businesses manufacturing and making money in America and creating jobs for people, there would be a lot better economic conditions for everyone in America. While working in a manufacturing plant offers many dangers, working in an American based manufacturing plant offers much safer environments.
I don't believe we can have a Utopia. Because one persons Utopia is another persons worse nightmare. But I don't believe we can have a democracy without jobs. I believe Americans felt good about being American long ago, and it made us have prosperity. I don't think self hatred of being American is a virtue.
I think that the media is in part of the problem. We have been drawn into these bubbles. People who aren't educated get told things in the media and believe it. Hasn't anyone learned from the last couple of bubbles to not get caught up in them? I am sorry. I remember the internet bubble quite clearly. People were working on something that was a sure thing, and it floundered. Then there was the stocks in the internet bubble. People lost their shirt. Then people invested in the real estate market, again, no one saw the impeding doom from the bubble. Except maybe me. I saw people asking me to get them investment properties in the New Jersey area. And I couldn't do it. I stopped working in real estate to have a clear conscious when the bubble burst.
So then we had people investing in the energy bubble which less people know about. And then the finance fiasco with banks and credit happened. Is there any wonder the economy has tanked? This is one thing I cannot forgive the media. I wanted to be a reporter. But I can't say that I want to just tell you what is going on. I want to warn people of what I see. To wake them up out of their media brainwashing.
I really do think Americans are brainwashed. They watch TV and just accept what they are told. I can't say I am pleased with power hungry liberals or conservatives. I believe in values and doing the right thing. I was horrified in High School to see the cheating and widespread drug use. Eating disorders seem to be widespread, with either eating too little or too much. Neither is healthy. I can't say that I am very inspired by our sick society. Everyone seems to be unbalanced. I don't think there are easy answers.
I don't think there is any real answers except it starts with you. We each need to do our best and to try to help others. I think we really are seeing a breakdown in society ever since we took prayer out of school. My family wasn't very spiritual, but I consider myself very spiritual. And it hurts me when people are hurting so much inside. And its not just about their pocketbooks. People want to see answers for our leader's greed.
