Looking Back at 2009 Predicting 2010

Entertainment, Scandals, and Economy

Jane Vee
If 2009 made you faint of heart, will 2010 be any better for entertainment, celebrity scandals and deaths, politics, and the economy? Looking at the situation realistically, it's not looking very good. Almost everything that happened in 2009 will just spill into 2010. Hopefully, here's to a prosperous New Year.

From the beginning of 2009 it seemed the year went downhill. Who would have imagined the deaths and the drama that would occur? Cancer seemed to run rampant in the celebrities. The economy was a trial from the beginning of the year with the hope that things would look up or entertainment would at least be a distraction. Neither happened and politics got worse as well as celebrity scandals. Bank bailouts were as much a scandal as any celebrity could hope to stir up. There were shocking losses in 2009 that put the entertainment industry wishing for yesteryear when there were performers and not reality nonsense.

With the beginning of 2010, hope creeps back into everyone's psyche. The health issue may finally come to an end, the economy might straighten out, and television and the movies will entertain once again.

Unfortunately, the signs of 2010 looking up are not good. In fact, foreclosures in California and Florida will be on the rise, devastating the states economies. More job losses are in the future as well. The space program comes to a halt, or hopefully, a "regrouping," in 2010 with more than 28,000 job losses forecast in Central Florida alone between January and March, according to a USA (United Space Alliance) employee.

Here is a recap of 2009s deaths, scandals, economy, politics, and entertainment changes.

Deaths

Patrick Swayze

Farrah Fawcett

Michael Jackson

Billy Mays

Walter Cronkite

Paul Harvey

Ed McMahon

David Carradine

Bea Arthur

Ted Kennedy

Dom DeLuise

Celebrity Scandals

Jon and Kate Gosselin - Drama and scandal just follow Jon and Kate around.

Tiger Woods - Tiger Woods put the sport of golf into a drama fest with his affairs.

Jay Leno and NBC - Of all the celebrity issues, this was the quietest and nicest.

Paula Abdul and American Idol - There were so many scandals with Paula from getting segments mixed up, to her leaving.

Boy in the Balloon - This was a feeble attempt at getting a reality show.

Politics and Economy

Bank Bailout

Health Bill

Here is a look to the future in 2010.

Entertainment

The good news is there are new stars breaking into the entertainment industry. There will be more change to Disney and Nickelodeon programming in hopes of entertaining all ages. With the changes at Disney, that also means change for ABC. NBC will settle into its late night programming, and CBS will start stirring just to keep up.

Entertainment changes are important because most people watch television to escape their daily lives. With the problems of the economy, people need an escape that is not hazardous to their well being.

Economy

More foreclosures are predicted.

The good news is some plants will be rehiring a few people from their layoffs, but the bad news is there are a lot more layoffs to come in a few of the hardest hit states.

With any luck, the economy improving in most of the United States will help the rest of the United States get back on its feet. Without banks helping the people that the bail out money was supposed to help, foreclosures are eminent. All those people foreclosed on will have to rent or they will become homeless. Rent is so high some will be left homeless. Houses will be setting empty. Crime will increase in the states hardest hit with foreclosures.

With a new year comes the hope of a new life. We have to wish and help out where we can to make country improve. Volunteering will increase in 2010 and hopefully, life will be better.

I live in Central Florida and that coming unemployment is not going to help... yikes! The risk for a double dip recesssion is very high and I think 2010 or 2011 will make 2008 look like a picnic.

When I think of 2010, I am struck with fear. The past few years have been horrible for so many people... rising crime, rising police brutality, rising official corruption at all levels, criminal bankers, frauds everywhere you look! I've been meaning to make my own list of world predictions - like Jeanne Dixon used to - but, haven't gotten around to it yet. Too busy dealing with freezing pipes, failing heat, ice everywhere... global warming...LOL! I do hope the year improves because so far.... Yikes!

I'm optimistic that we learned lessons from the last year and that 2010 can be better. Although I thought I recalled each death, I felt sadness seeing the list of names again. Walter Cronkite was always there each night as I was growing up, brings back memories of watching him with my parents.

Interesting, I hope 2010 is better than 2009 was!
