The holidays are coming and this is the perfect time to work on all different types of crafts. You can make ornaments, wreaths or other types of holiday decorations. You can also make many types of holiday gifts that are crafty and fun.

Here are some tips to holding a fun and festive craft party with your friends. A craft party can be easy to do and it is always great to try something different with a party theme.

The first thing you will need when throwing a craft party is some great craft ideas. You can find lots of holiday craft ideas at Joann's Craft Store http://www.joann.com/, look under Project Ideas. Or look in your favorite craft books and magazines for ideas. When selecting a craft consider your guests. It is great to select some craft ideas that your guests can add their own personal touches to, and get creative with - such as decorating clear glass ornaments. If your group of friends is eager to learn craft projects but doesn't have much experience - select a craft project with a Beginner skill level.

It is most helpful if you can actually do the craft before the party so that you have a sample to show your guests. This also means that you know all of the steps the craft will take, and you can guide your guests step by step if needed. But sometimes this isn't possible - you may be too busy to try the project ahead of time. If this is the case, try to select a project that is a craft that you have already done so that you are familiar with some of the steps - so if you like to do rubber stamping then select a rubber stamping or card making project. Also be sure to print out the directions and have several copies on the table so that people can read the directions as they do the craft.

Ornaments can be a great holiday craft. So can making holiday cards. Or making Christmas wreaths or garlands. Jewelry making can also be a fun craft to do with a group. Knitting is also a great craft to do, although most people will not be able to complete a full project in one evening - but this evening can be a great time to get a project started. Scrapbooking is also a great craft to do as a group.

Most parties serve a meal, or at least some sort of yummy treats. Well food and crafts can be kind of a hard thing to mix. It can be best if you try to serve the food first and then do the craft. Set up the craft so that it is easy to lay out quickly once people have finished eating. Consider also having some easy to eat foods on hand for people to snack on while they are crafting, and some sodas and other drinks available. Why not carry the holiday theme throughout the party and serve some Christmas cookies and egg nog, or other treats that remind you of the holidays. Gingerbread cookies are easy to make, and they can be very cute if you write each guest's name in icing on a cookie to eat. Try to carry the holiday theme of the party throughout and listen to holiday tunes that are sure to please. There are lots of holiday CDs that have a variety of songs that are fun to play.

A crafting party can be a great idea for the holidays. It is a relaxed and casual way to get everyone together to do something creative. You may be inspired to have crafting parties at other times of the year!
