Looking for a Free Anti-Virus Program for Your Computer: Review of Several Possiblities

Tammy Evans
Do you have an anti-virus program running on your computer? If you don't you will be interested in this article. Every computer should have an anti-virus program at all times. Running a computer without an anti-virus program is a computer looking for a virus.
Would you like to know how to get a great anti-virus program for free?

There are tons of anti-viruses out there today. You usually get Norton or one similarly with your computer when you purchase the computer brand new. Most of these anti-virus programs last only a year then you have to renew by purchasing the program; this can get expensive.

Everyone is looking for a way to cut cost these days but when it comes to your investment of your computer you have to be careful or your computer could be in the shop more than in your home.

There are something's you have to know if you already have an anti-virus program running on your computer.

1. Every one of the anti-viruses out there will slow your computer down, you can't stop this but some will slow down your computer more than others. The anti-virus programs that have the works can slow your computer down drastically compared to the simpler one. The free anti-virus that I'm talking about will slow down your computer less than the hot ones on the market.

2. Almost every anti-virus program out there ranges from $30 to $100 dollars and you have to renew every year. Every anti-virus has to update every day or every two days for it to receive any new virus watches that have been found in computers. When your year's subscription is up you normally will get a notice that it is time to renew your subscription but some don't even send you a notice. I have had this happen several years back. I didn't even notice it wasn't working until I got a virus. This free anti-virus program I'm talking about will never ask you for any money!

3. One thing about the anti-viruses programs that you can purchase is that they are always adding new features to make it do more. Things like anti-spyware, web site authentication, firewall, anti-phising features, and many more. Yes, some of these features can be very useful but most users may find these and more features unnecessary because user can recognize these things without having additional programs. It doesn't matter if these features are useful or not, what it does do is add more bulk and space on your computer, it slows your computer down even more and increases the price of the anti-virus program every time.

This free anti-virus program that I'm talking about protects against viruses plus the same producer of this software also has a free anti-spyware and a free anti-rootkit. This company that produces these free programs also has a sophisticated combination of features for an average price that won't break your budget.

So how would you like a free program that stops viruses from entering your computer system? This free anti-virus can also remove any viruses that may already be in your computer and you don't even know it. Okay, the anti-virus program that is free is the AVG Free Addition.

GriSoft produces Avg Free Editon and most people don't even know about it. It is a great anti-virus protection program that will stop viruses dead in their tracks before it infects your computers system. This program has been tested over and over again by different laboratories

There are a few things you need to know about AVG Free Addition, there are some limitations:

1. It is only licensed for single home, private, non-commercial computers. Your work computer, corporation or any commercial use is prohibited. It can't be used in churches, schools charities, or government organization.

2. You can only use AVG on one computer in your home.

3. No tech support is offered on this free addition.

I can tell you that I love it. I have been using the AVG Free Addition for quite some time now. My computer is old with running Windows 98, (it's so old that I couldn't even find an anti-virus program that would except Windows 98). When I did discover AVG Free Addition, downloaded it, and ran it; it found all sorts of things that were in my computer. Now I haven't had any problem with my computer and it's running fine.

I use Norton Antivirus for my business computers, but Avast is actually an excellent program for home use. I have it on my son's computer.
