Below are some tips that could help one choose a good gym or sports club:
1. Know your needs. Ask yourself what do you expect from a gym. Are you working out to gain muscle mass? Are you merely interested in playing a certain sport, like badminton or basketball? Are you keen on aerobics or exercise classes? Different gyms offer different programs that could suit your needs. Better ask the gym instructor about their range of programs.
2. Choose convenience. Choose a gym that would make it convenient for you to start and stick to a program. Ask yourself what time do you plan to work out. If you work out on weekends, it might be better to choose a gym near your home. If you plan to include weekdays, you might consider a gym that is nearer your office.
3. Look at facilities. Gyms should have these basic facilities: a shower room, a locker to keep your stuff while you're working out, and an adequate supply of water. You must also look at their equipment, see if they match your needs, and their quality.
4. Take note of your budget. Working out means habitually going to the gym. You must therefore afford this kind of set-up. Look at different gyms and compare their rates. Ask yourself if it is cheaper and more convenient to pay your work outs per session, per month, or per year. Ask the gym if you can pay in check or by card. Ask for their value-added services, like free massages or other freebies. This would allow you to determine which gym would be most affordable and value-added.
