Looking Hot for New Years Eve - Done!

K. F. Lynn
The holidays are a great time to play with makeup, and what better holiday to experiment with than one meant to celebrate life? New Years Eve means some of the best parties of the year and it would be a lie to say that you don't want to get noticed. They put mistletoe up there for a reason, I'm just saying...

If you're looking for a great makeup look for new years, look no further. Make a bold statement with this look that will get you noticed!

What will you need?

Brushes: eyeshadow brush, eyeshadow blending brush, smudge brush (a q-tip can work just as well), foundation brush, blush brush.

Products: matte-finish foundation of your choice, concealer (optional), NARS blush in Gilda or a duplicate of your choice, GOSH lipstick in Bourgogne or any duplicate, eyeshadow primer, MakeupForever's aqua cream shadow in #19 purple or any drugstore brand cream shadow in purple, MAC shadow in Crazy Cool or dupe, MAC shadow in Satellite Dreams or dupe, black eyeliner pencil, lengthening mascara in black.

For the face. For this look, you are going to want a matte finish with your foundation because the rest of your makeup will be bringing enough shimmer and shine to the new year! Buff some powder foundation into your skin gently and don't be afraid to layer until you achieve the coverage that you want. Once you've laid the foundation (so to speak), dab on concealer to hide any still-visible blemishes, redness, or dark areas. Now, for the cheeks! Brush Gilda onto your cheekbones, not directly to the apples of your cheeks. Be sure to blend well enough so that there are no harsh edges between the blush and your foundation/skin tone!

Eyes. Start by applying an eyeshadow base such as Urban Decay Primer Potion. This will help your shadow last for hours, keep it from creasing, and appear more vibrant. Now apply a thin layer of purple Aqua Cream Shadow (purple cream shadow) to your eyelids, blending it gently to just above your crease. Remember not to pile this on - it's only a base for the rest of the shadow to stick to, so do not worry about it not being bright enough. Next, using your eyeshadow brush gently press Crazy Cool (or your duplicate shade) onto your lids from the inner corner to the center of your lids, and then dust some into your crease. It is okay to pack the color on, but remember that you can always add more later on. Once this is done, pick up Satellite Dreams with the same brush and apply it to the outer half of your lids. Don't worry about overlapping the lighter purple in your crease - you can shape your edges in whatever way you feel suits your eyes the best! Now, using the blending brush, blend the two shadows together where they meet and through the crease. Using your smudge brush or q-tip, smudge a little bit of each color onto your bottom lash line. To finish the eyes, apply the black liner to your bottom waterline and top lash line, and apply 2-3 coats of mascara.

Lips. Bourgogne is an absolutely gorgeous, bold lipstick that will work great with your eyes! Most makeup artists will advise against a bold eye and a bold lip, but with this look you can get away with both and look incredible for new years. You can opt to line your lips first, but this step isn't a necessity. Apply Bourgogne to your lips, blot and adjust - and you're finished!

This look is stylish, fun and screams editorial fashion. It's guaranteed to get you compliments this holiday season (or any time of year, if you're me). While everyone else is wearing the same boring red, gold and silver, you'll be stepping out in something a little different and very chic! Happy New Year!
