The first is a church. Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in West Knoxville Tennessee has been helping for months its members who have been unemployed or "under-employed". This past Saturday the church opened its doors to the entire public and hosted a job fair. As of right now they do not have any more fairs planned, but they are teaming up with employers and also provide career counseling and coaching. For more information visit the church's website at www.cspc.net.
The next is actually a college that is offering scholarships for those who have been laid off. Maryville College's annual tuition is around $27,000. The scholarships are worth $16,000 annually. However, combined with other grants and scholarships the bulk of the annual tuition should be covered. For more information on this and to find out qualifications for a scholarship visit www.wate.com or e mail the senior assistant director of admissions and transfer coordinator for the college at alayne.bowman@maryvillecollege.edu.
The next one is actually Channel 6 News themselves (www.wate.com). They are helping by promoting job fairs, seminars, and/or workshops. They have a calendar on their website with all the events listed. They also have a "Classifieds" link on their website where they list Knoxville Jobs (openings for jobs in Knox County).
Knoxvillejobs.com (www.knoxvillejobs.com) is one place to always search for a job. This website has numerous jobs listed in a large amount of categories. They also offer a "Build a Great Résumé" link to help you prepare and send a fabulous résumé. This is a site where the employers have posted their own ads looking for employees. This is a free site for the job seekers.
Knoxnews.com is another place to search the internet for jobs in and around Knox County Tennessee. This search is powered by Yahoo! Hotjobs. On this site (www.knoxnews.com/jobs) you can post your résumé and let the employers find you. Or you can look up jobs that are of interest to you.
If you wish to go through and employment agency, you will not have any trouble finding one in Knox County Tennessee. Just to name five...Labor Finders (www.laborfinders.com), Manpower Inc. (www.us.manpower.com), Labor Ready (www.laborready.com), Express Employment Pro (www.expresspros.com), Skyco Staffing (www.skycostaffing.com). Of course, most of these places are considered "day laborers" or "temp" services. However, many people have gone to these and found full time and permanent work.
So if you happen to be out of work in East Tennessee, here are a few places you may think about checking out. Hope they help.
