Scarecrows and pumpkins will soon be replaced by Santa and his reindeer in yard displays throughout Troy and Pike County, Alabama. Autumn turns into winter and temperatures fall. Heavy jackets and coats replace sweaters and windbreakers. The sounds of the season will include bells and Christmas songs.

The cities and towns throughout Pike County are gearing up for what is probably the busiest, most festive and colorful time of year.

Troy, Brundidge and Goshen are three cities in Pike County that are hosting Christmas parades and other attractions. Troy, the county seat is the location of Troy University Trojans.

The season will begin with Holiday Market 2010 sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce Nov. 6th at the Troy Recreation Community Center. Vendors from near and far will have fun and festive items for sale to get everyone in the mood for the days to come. The Holiday Market starts at 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The City of Troy will be hosting the Annual Christmas Parade Monday, Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. in downtown Troy. Theme of the parade: "It's Looking A Lot Like Christmas." Any citizen can enter a float in the parade. To spice things up this year, all floats will be judged. One float will be chosen, giving the owner bragging rights for one year for its winning design. A Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held downtown on the square immediately following the parade.

In Brundidge, on Tues., Nov. 30th, the citizens will kick off the Christmas season with a Christmas Parade to begin at 6 p.m. in downtown. Other activities include a special appearance by Santa Claus, a Jingle Bell Jog for Youth, and the lighting of the city Christmas Tree outside The Bass House. Eager onlookers will be able to witness the lighting of the City of Brundidge's antique Christmas decorations hung throughout the city.

The town of Goshen will hots its Christmas Parade on Friday, Dec. 3rd at 6 p.m. at Goshen High School. They will feature a camp stew cook-off. A variety of good eats, including camp stew, will be available for sale beginning at 4 p.m.

For anyone who lives in or near Pike County, or if someone is passing through, bookmark this article so you'll remember the dates. Come out and enjoy the festivities as it begins to look a lot like Christmas.
