Looking for Moonlighting Jobs?

Julie Marie
Didn't get the raise you wanted (and needed)? Did you get your hours cut? Do you have a passion or talent for something but your day job doesn't give your room for creative? The holidays are coming soon and you haven't saved up for presents yet? Then try moonlighting! The key here is to balance and manage your time between your day job and second part time job so you won't burn out. Also make sure your second is not a conflict of interest with your regular job. Here are some ways to get started with your moonlighting job.

1. Take a part time job or a seasonal job - This is obvious-it can be in retail or working in Starbucks on the weekends or a couple days during the work week. Most full time workers would put in about 10 hours in their part time job. The perks of getting a part time or seasonal job in retail is that you can get discounts when it's around the holidays.

2. Census Bureau 2010 - Go to http://2010.census.gov/2010censusjobs/ but in the meantime they are not recruiting but will start again this coming fall so stay tuned folks!

3. "Gigs" on Craigslist.org - There is quite a wide variety from this classified ad site especially in the gig section ranging from being an extra to tutoring for an AP class. There is someone looking for a gardener or looking for someone to help move their furniture. There are postings of looking for a bartender or a caterer for an event for the night. Postings for model for a photography class project-the possibilities are endless. But when looking for jobs at Craigslist, please make sure it's legitimate.

4. Catering - I know I mentioned this previously but I did catering on some weekends during college and it was a great weekend job. From my personal experience from catering, it takes a lot of manpower and hours from setting up for a catering event. There's setting up the tables and chairs and decoration, preparing the food and drinks, serving the guests, putting away the tables and chairs, cleanings up the mess and decoration, and washing the dishes. To get a catering job, call your local catering company for opportunities.

5. Start your own business - Showcase your talent and hobbies if you are good at knitting or jewelry making then sell them at 1000markets.com or etsy.com. Or try making an event planning business if you like to organize fundraising events or parties. Or advertise for a tutoring business or babysitting.

6. Writing - I write for Associated Content as a hobby even though I make a couple dollars per article writing is my passion. I love to write and express myself because it relieves me from a long day at work or at school. I love to write about skincare and beauty products I use or express an opinion about a recent article I read. Also on top of getting paid of the articles you write, you get paid per 1,000 views. So writing for sites like Associated Content is a good side job.
