If you are seeking nature, beauty, adventure and peace you should visit Old Mans Caves while in the Hocking Hills. Located on Route 664 outside of Logan , Ohio in a serene gorgeous setting of woods, Old Mans Caves is the hot spot for tourists year round. If you are looking for a great workout at the Upper Falls I would recommend you take the Grandma Gatewood Trail. The hike will be over 6 miles long. You will hike thru Old Man's Cave, then Cedar Falls and finally ending up at Ash Cave. A good idea if you are traveling in a group is to leave 1 car at Ash Cave then head onto Old Mans Cave. Complete the hike and ride back to Old Mans Cave for your other vehicle, or else you will be walking back 6 miles! This trail probably would not be ideal for elderly people or very young children. Don't be discouraged there are many of other hiking trails at Old Mans Cave that are not as physically demanding.

You will be able to take a short hike around the upper falls, or hike down to the lower falls. There is also an option to hike around the picnic are and back to a small rangers station type building. Sometimes the park ranger will have birds or raccoons or some other local animal for viewing.
The ranger will be able to answer questions you may have or give you an idea of what trail you might best enjoy.

The park is complete with a seasonal concession stand and very near by is a spot that you can practice shooting bows or something.
In the summer you get the opportunity to view vegetation, flowers and small animals in a beautiful natural setting. On hot days you will find the caves appealing and cool. It is always 52 degrees in a cave. Isn't that a strange fact? In the fall Old Mans Caves is an excellent way to see the changing of the leaves, fall mushrooms and wild life. It makes a lovely retreat on weekends with nearby camping sites and the lodge. If you are adventurous and a fan of winter after everything is frozen over you will have the chance to see absolutely beautiful ice formations . As well as the frozen waterfalls. Please use caution, it will be slippery and some might consider the trails to be treacherous in the winter.

The local legend of how the caves got their name is as follows. A hermit took up residence in the caves in the 1800s. So the local people called it " Old Mans Caves" pretty self explanatory. In reality this is one of thee most beautiful places in Ohio.Possibly the world. The Caves are a great family attraction as well as a great way to get some exercise! With the different trails it is sure to appeal to almost anyone. Old Mans Cave is the most visited spot in Hocking County as far as our parks go.
