Looking for Tennis in Puyallup?

Nick Mayer
Did you just get done watching Rafael Nadal beat Roger Federer, again? After watching a grueling match are you looking for an actual match to get in on? Well for people living in Puyallup it is difficult to find places to actually play a game of tennis without worrying if the court is in an adequate shape. The following are the most highly regarded venues for a game of tennis in the Puyallup area.

Puyallup High School - Before the original courts got torn down this summer, this was just an average place to play tennis. The lights didn't work, there were cracks in the court, and if you hit a ball over the fence it actually would cross the main street of Pioneer Ave. and was nearly impossiblt to retrieve. This has all changed since the remodel of the high school began. The new courts are near flawless, when it comes to the average game of tennis. It has great, stiff nets, it has new courts that have not been cracked or stained at all, and it serves home to the Puyallup Vikings. Overall, this is a great place for a game of tennis for the public. It has four courts to play on, and it is probably the best place to play in the city.

Decoursey Park - This place has character. There are four tennis courts right next to Clark's Creek with a giant grass field just outside of the courts. They definitely serve their purpose, as they are average tennis courts. About half of the courts have sagging nets and cracked and raised areas of the court. Although these aren't at all serious problems, they do hurt the park's case. Even though these courts aren't the best in the city, I would have to admit that these are my favorite courts to play on, as these have the most character and is much more of a public atmostphere than Puyallup High School has to offer. Decoursey Park also serves to the more casual player. It adheres to the teenage crowd that can spend an afternoon with a couple of friends playing tennis.

Overall, I would have to admit that I do enjoy playing at Decoursey Park over Puyallup High School, the latter provides the more professional and upscale experience. I like the low key environment of Decoursey Park, but if one is looking for a serious game of tennis I would have to recommend playing at Puyallup High School.
