Lord, Give Us Boldness

Teri Bethel
"...According to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death" (Philippians 1:20).

She sat on yonder bench,
Under the black olive tree-
In the park, next to the lake.
We watched her from behind our gate.

That's where she planted the seed.
The one of love and life,
Like the one we planted
When we grew tired of strife.

Amazing, isn't it?
How her seed grew.
She watered it with the word
Now it's in full bloom.

We've taken much for granted,
Hiding what we've got.
By covering ourselves with cotton
For fear of being dropped.

So many years have passed
Since we saw her there.
But her love lingers on,
The evidence is clear.

Lord, give us boldness
To go forth in your name.
To stand in the face of ridicule,
To be a witness without shame-

To be like the lady who
Sat on yonder bench,
Sharing the word of Jesus,
Telling why He was heaven sent.

The people in the street
Are desperately seeking a face.
Let's open our hearts to them-
Show the world His grace.

The Lord has blessed us,
We have been redeemed.
Help feed our brothers with the Word.
It's what we all need.

Excellent poem, Teri, and I like how you put the scripture first. It set the stage for your excellent poetry skills. Watering with The Word WILL give us boldness! It's our Sword!

Often, for me, being bold is most difficult with believers. I guess it is because I am outside of most people's understanding of what a Christian is.
