Lord, Can You Hear Me?

What is Prayer?

Some new believers may question, "What IS prayer, anyway?"

Cell phones and other communication devices have become a necessity in today's society. We have blue tubes, something called a blackberry and even talking computers!

Cell phones and other communication devices have become a necessity in today's society. We have blue tubes, something called a blackberry and even talking computers!

How many of you have seen the television commercial of a man walking hither and yon with his cell phone saying, "Can you hear me now?" He's trying to get and maintain a good connection. How many times have we done that at the mall or grocery store?!

Prayer, simply put, is our "direct line" with Heaven. A means of communication allows two or more people to interact, discuss, and respond to one another. Prayer is our two-way communication device for talking to God! He wants us to communicate with Him…a "person to person" call if you will.

Here are some prayerful points to ponder:

*Prayer: What Do I Say?
Praying is like talking to your best friend! It's easy to talk to someone when you know they love you unconditionally!
1. Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and make you new in Him!
Acts 3:19 "Repent then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord." (NIV)
2. Tell Him your needs!
1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your anxiety on him for he cares for you." (NIV)
3. Thank Him…He died for you on the cross at Calvary!
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (NIV)

*Prayer: How Do I Say It?
Here's how I have learned to approach the Savior of my life:
1. With confidence! (Belief)
Ephesians 3:12 "In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence." (NIV)
Hebrews 4:16 "Then let us approach the throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." (NIV)
2. With joy! (He makes me happy!)
Acts 2:28 "You have made known to me the paths of life, you will fill me with joy in your presence." (NIV)
3. With Expectation! (He will answer!)
Psalm 5:3 "In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation!" (NIV)
Psalm 17:6 "I call on you, O God, for you will answer me, give ear to me and hear my prayer." (NIV)

*Prayer: What Does the Bible Say?
1. Pray for each other.
John Chapter 17 is Jesus' example to us. He prayed for His disciples, for
God to protect them and strengthen them as they would continue the
ministry of telling others about Jesus' love for them. In this chapter, Jesus
also prayed for those who would come to believe in him through their
message.
2. Pray faithfully!
Hebrews 11:6 "And without faith it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." (NIV)
3. Pray with worship and reverence!
Psalm 99:5 "Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy." (NIV)
John 9:38 "Then the man said, Lord I believe, and he worshipped him." (NIV)

The next time you wonder what prayer really is, and if God can hear you when you pray, you'll know He can, and He does! Open that line of communication! Pray confidently and with joy knowing that no matter how far you "roam" your connection with Him can never be lost!

Let me end with a prayer for you.

Philippians 1:9
"And this is my prayer that love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight." (NIV)

Just because you can't see the wind, doesn't mean the wind isn't there....same with God! He's there. Listening!
