L'Oreal H.I.P. Color Truth Cream Eyeliner in Eggplant: A Review

I was at a CVS Pharmacy looking through the makeup aisle when I noticed the L'Oreal HIP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner. I have a ton of makeup but not many eyeliners so I decided to try this one since I really like all of the products I've tried by L'Oreal HIP.

I decided on the Eggplant shade because I really liked that it was such an intense and dark hue of purple and I knew that it would probably flatter my brown skin. Usually L'Oreal goes all out with the design of the packaging for their HIP line, but they kept it simple with the Cream Eyeliner.

Color Truth just came in an eggplant colored box that housed the eyeliner and a slanted eyeliner brush. The eyeliner sits in a simple looking jar, there is a unique twist to it though, the black top that looks like a lid is actually the base. And the c-thru base that looks like the jar is actually the lid, so you can see the purple eyeliner inside.

L'Oreal says that Color Truth is the first cream eyeliner from HIP. They claim it will deliver a true color deposit so you can get the color you expect. Color Truth is also supposed to be longwearing, while the creamy texture prevents the color from losing its edge. HIP also claims that the cream eyeliner gives a smooth and even application and the slanted brush provides a professional and precise application.

When I used the HIP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner I was happy to see that the Eggplant shade showed up on my skin exactly as it looked in the jar. Eggplant was sexy and mysterious looking and it really made my brown eyes pop.

The brush allowed me to define my eyes with really thin lines, and even thicker Cleopatra style lines as well, and they all looked smooth. L'Oreal HIP's Color Truth does have a tacky feel, rather than an oily texture, and it immediately adhered to my skin and didn't budge at all during the day. It barely moved, even when I purposely tried to smudge it with my fingers.

I was feeling creative a few weeks after I bought it so I just applied Color Truth onto my eyelid with a fingertip directly from the jar to see if it would look cool as an eye shadow. I was surprised to see that it did, it looked like a cool smoky dark plum shadow.

The only complaint I had about the L'Oreal Color Truth was what makes the eyeliner good. Since it isn't creamy or oily, it has more of a dry gel-like texture which allows it to stick to the skin so well, but it also makes it harder to apply than the average cream shadow. It takes longer because you have to keep dipping the brush into the jar in order to get a complete line.

In the End...

The L'Oreal HIP Color Truth Eyeliner is an awesome find, it's long wearing, and creates a smooth finish, and the Eggplant shade is really sexy. I would definitely buy it again both in Eggplant and in other colors. It's another great product from L'Oreal's Hip line I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
