L'Oreal HIP Color Truth Pencil Eyeliner in 'Green' Review

The Pen
I own a lot of makeup but I only have a handful of pencil eyeliners because I haven't had much success with a lot the one's I've purchased from drugstores. I've found that most of them don't go on smoothly or they hurt when I apply them, and I just wasn't willing to pay $20 or more for a higher-end one.

So I usually don't buy them. But a few months ago CVS was having a 75% off sale on the L'Oreal HIP Pencil Eyeliner in Green, and I decided to buy it because it was only around $2.50. Normally they retail for $8.79, so it was an offer I couldn't refuse and I figured that if it sucked I wouldn't be out that much money.

I've found that mostly all of the HIP products are designed to look sleek & sexy and the pencil eyeliner is no exception. The label and description are all written in a sleek font, and the majority of the slim pencil is black except for a forest green end.

L'Oreal claims that the pencil liner has an "anti-humidity, long-wearing formula" that "prevents color from losing its edge while delivering a bold color deposit with a smooth application. With Color Truth eyeliner you can complete your look and get the color you expect from HIP."

I rarely use this eyeliner because I'm so used to going without it, but I wore it yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

First off, the tip of the pencil is really soft; it feels like a gel when it goes on the skin. It's glides on smoothly so I didn't have to drag and tug it across my eyelids. Pain is the reason why I usually avoid pencil eyeliners, but the L'Oreal Color Truth didn't hurt at all.

I also found that I didn't have to apply a lot of pressure because once the eyeliner glided on I got a bold color deposit right away.

The Green shade doesn't look like a regular grass green shade in the package it's more of a darker green that's close to a forest shade. So I expected that color when I applied it to my lids and that's exactly what I got. One thin line created a jewel-toned green that defined and made my brown eyes look amazing. A few more coats created a rich dark green, and I was very pleased with the results.

I wore the Color Truth pencil liner yesterday when the weather was quite warm. I have hooded eyelids and as soon as I applied it to my upper eyelids the color began to transfer to the middle of them whenever I looked up. It also didn't stand up to the warm weather, the liner didn't completely wear away, but much of it faded by the end of the day.

In the End...

Even though the L'Oreal HIP Color Truth Pencil Eyeliner wasn't as long-wearing as I hoped, the fact that it went on so smoothly and didn't irritate my delicate eyelids redeems this liner for me. Whenever I use it I'll make sure to use a primer first, but I would definitely purchase this pencil again in other colors. I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

But if you're looking for smudge-proof long wearing eyeliner try the L'Oreal Color Truth Cream Liner.
