Women are nominating their colleagues, friends, and family members in their communities for L'Oreal Paris' Women of Worth Contest which recognizes female leaders in the areas of volunteer work. Nominations are submitted online at womenofworth.com.
The winner will be awarded a $5,000 donation to be made in her name to a charitable cause. She will also be flown to New York City to be honored in a special gala event in the fall recognizing her unique contribution to her community.
L'Oreal has created a Triangle of Giving to help connect the personal commitment, community, and well-being to women everywhere.
Some nominees have set up literacy programs, spearheaded charitable life-saving organizations, or organized children's initiatives.
To be considered all nominees must be 18 years or older, have a record of exemplary service within her community and at large, be able to demonstrate the impact of her work within her area, be aspirational and inspirational to others, demonstrate commitment to her cause, and exemplify leadership. Nominees must be legal residents of one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia.
Seven potential honorees will be selected to receive an award from each of the seven regions of the country.
Women of Worth's program staff recommends that those interested in volunteering in their communities research issues and causes that are important to them and to look for a group that works with issues about which you feel strongly.
"Make sure the volunteer hours you want to give fit into your hectic life so you don't shortchange the organization, neglect your job, frustrate your family, or exhaust yourself," recommends staff. "While most non-profits are eager to find volunteer help they have to be careful when accepting the services you offer."
You can consider also volunteering as a family by looking for opportunities suitable for parents and children or for a husband and wife to take on as a team.
You can also find out about virtual volunteering from womenofworth.com.
In the event of a tie nominees will be re-judged by an additional judge who will serve as a tiebreaker.
The deadline to nominate someone is May 19th.
Mid-level judging will be conducted in June and final judging in July.
Honorees will be announced August 1st.

Post a CommentI would like to nominate my granddaughter Debbie S Higgins, mother of 3 children and ran her own trucking company for the past 25 years. On July 27th 2006 her oldest son James W Higgins Jr USMC was shot and killed in Iraq just 4 days before his safe return home. James had a dream to honor all of the United States military that have made the ultimate sacrfice for our freedom. Proudly serving the United States of America and proudly honoring the American Flag and all that it stands for. Debbie has spent her life safings and more to start the National Fallen Heroes memorial and has the land for the memorial site. www.nationalfallenheroes.org
Not only is she working to honor her son and all that have made the ultimate sacrifice, but she visits the wounded troops every chance she can. Debbie has put on several events for the troops and their families. I am so proud of her strength and commitment to her family and country. This memorial is not just for our military but for the thousan
I am nominating Rosalyn Parker of Birmingham, Alabama. I believe that she would be a wonderful candidate because she is a single, god-fearing women. This is only the beginning. She has a great compassion for people. She is a foster parent, a god-parent to a child who calls her mom along with her foster child. You wouldn't know that both of the children didn't belong to her. She took care of mother until her dying days. She goes out to the community and shares the love of Christ to others. She is vice-president of the outreach ministry at Faith Temple Church and plays the organ and piano there also. She is always looking out for people in need. She has allowed people to stay with her in home. For instance, her twin neice stayed with her for some time as well as her mother. She visits and prays for the sick. She is always willing to give. I look up to her because her character explemfies good Christian morals.

Jan Scere is a worthless, shallow, hypocritical woman who has abandoned her family. She deserves no award, and if you knew her true self you would be ashamed to be associated with such a person. Sure she's a devoted animal activist, but what about her children or grandchildren. Where was she when they needed a mother? Ask her about her grandchildren, I bet she couldn't even tell you their names.
I nominate Jan Scere of Cornelius, NC, for her tireless efforts as a volunteer to build an animal shelter for this community. Jan has not only spent much of her time in this endeavor, but also has raised hundreds of dollars with fund-raising events, spayed, neutered, given shots to, loved and sheltered (many times at her own expense) many, many animals to keep them from being slaughtered. The town we live in and the surrounding towns don't think a proper animal shelter is a top priority. Before the volunteers became involved, conditions at the local shelter were much worse. Because of the volunteers' efforts, conditons have improved, but are far from ideal. This woman truly deserves to be called "woman of the year" in this community and the prize could help her realize her and our dream of a new, clean, loving facility that we so desperately need.
