Los Angeles Activities, With or Without Money

How To Have Fun in L.A. When Your'e a Bored, Broke and Starving Actor

shel lynn fashionista pashionista
If your'e bored and low in cash in L.A. here is the FIRST thing to do: Call everyone you know to borrow or send money! That way if you get it, great! If not, don't fret, the City of Angels will live up to it's name.

The only thing that you have to do is to put forth an effort to have a good day and you will.

Now the here is the rest of my advice:

1)If you live in a neighborhood that is really pretty or fairly nice,i.e. Culver City,Glendale and other parts of The Valley (too hot in summer but nice in winter), Beverly Hills, Laurel Canyon. West L.A., Venice, West or North Hollywood,Santa Monica etc. you can take lovely and safe health walks. This will A). Keep you in shape (Which is how you have to be in L.A), and B). Is very spiritual, thought provoking and inspirational.( which you must have in LA to stay focused and grounded in who you are.)

If you live in some of the more dangerous neighborhoods i.e. South Central, Inglewood, East L.A..Watts, etc. than I suggest you carry a knife or a stick on your walk. Of course that could be defeating the purpose of you spirituality. In that case, you can catch a bus or ride a train into a nicer part of town. The busses are very cheap in L.A. from .25 to a $1.25 and you can get everywhere. You can find bus schedules online: Los Angeles Metro Transit Authority.

2)Check out a Whole Foods Market nearby (there's several in L.A.) on weekend and earlier in the day for loads of free food samples and skin and haircare product samples! Whole Foods also opens at 7:00 AM a little fact that will help you get the first grabs. In Los Angeles the early bird really does get the worm, Trust Me!

3) Check the LA Times free publication and look under "Free Listings' (I think it's on Back Page), get a buddy and go check out some of the free events that they offer like; outdoor movies at the park, museum events, and movie ticket giveaways, to name a few.

4)Go and become a member at your local library. It's free to join and you can use their computer online facilities for an hour at a time for free! To make copies is .10 per page.
While you are there, check out the latest rags and maybe check out some acting and monologue books. If you are being pro-active within your acting career- you can sign yourself up online for some of the free casting agencies (there are some that are legit do research before you sign up). Also, be sure to go to sag.com, (that is the screen actors guild official website), and get a list of all the franchised agencies. In Los Angeles non-union actors don't really make the big bucks or have health insurance. So it really is smart to focus yourself on becoming an active member if acting is what you truly love.

If you do not have agent agent already, this is THE only list to use to get one. You will find legitimate agencies for you to submit your photo and resume. In turn, you will be aligning yourself with the City of Angels to be at the right place at the right time!

And last but definitely not the least free or low cost thing to do is.....GUESS!!!
5) GO TO THE BEACH, GET TO THE BEACH, RUN TO THE BEACH!!!!

The beach itself is free, BUT, you must start out early to get a free parking space. If not, you may drive around for 20 minutes burning petrol looking for one OR pay in one of those lots, which could be anywhere from $5.00 to $15.00. My best bet is to catch the bus there and back and you don't even have to worry about parking. The city of L.A. has a wonderful public transit system.
Here's to all your dreams coming true. Make it Happen!
