Forget about the notion of June Gloom, June is actually the time of the year summer events are kicking off. Check out the list below for some of the best events to catch.

Grand Performances At California Plaza Located in downtown Los Angeles, Grand Performances offers free concerts that include musicians, dancers, and poets. This event highlights Los Angeles' proud diversity as the concerts range from Brazilian Samba, Spanish Rock, and Hip Hop music. Performances are held on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays, in the urban amphitheater back by a waterfall. Some events include, Embers, A Jazz Opera in Poems, with Terry Wolverton and composer David Ornette Cherry; Charles Phoenix: Los Angelesland; Crime after Crime, the Deborah Peagler story; and music with Mr. Little Jeans, aka Monica Birkenes.

Leimert Park Village

Leimert Park Juneteenth Heritage Festival
Juneteenth is a celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S.
At this year's event, enjoy line-dancing, square dancing, "kidz korner", arts and crafts, food and live entertainment.
Location: 4300 Degnan Blvd. Los Angeles, CA
Date: June 18, 2011 to June 19, 2011. Time: 10AM to 6PM.
Cost: Free.

Leimert Park Village Book Fair
Celebrating five years of bringing literacy and education to Los Angeles, the Leimert Park Village Book Fair highlights authors from all genres. Activities include storytelling, book give-a-ways, children projects, writing workshops, panel discussions, author meet & greets, spoken word performances/poetry recitals, and live music, with a tribute to Michael Jackson.

This year's theme, "Black Female Intelligence", with headliners, publishing pioneer, Susan L. Taylor; Bennett College for Women, President/Author, Dr. Julianne Malveaux; and Pulitzer Prize winner, Isabel Wilkerson.
Additional authors include Isaiah Washington, Todd Bridges, Russ Parr, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Karyn Parsons.

Date: June 25, 2011. Time: 10AM - 6PM
Location: Vision Theater parking lot. 4300 Degnan Blvd. Los Angeles, CA.
Cost: Free.

Los Angeles Film Festival

Located at L.A. Live, the Los Angeles Film Festival features over 200 films, music videos, and shorts. The festival include panels, star-studded events, and a special screening of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Visit their website for a complete list of events.

Date: June 16, 2011 to June 26, 2011
Location: Hosted at Regal Theatre, 800 W. Olympic Bvld, Los Angeles, CA. However, visit their site for additional screening locations.
Cost: event price varies; some events/screenings are free.

The GRAMMY Museum

The GRAMMY Museum not only exhibits artifacts, they also showcase live music, and provide an intimate viewing to catch the sounds of dynamic artists. Tickets do sell out, so visit their site frequently for upcoming events.

Great Guitars: Warren Haynes
Rock and blues guitarist Warren Haynes, with his new album, Man in Motion, will perform and take questions from the audience.
Date: June 27, 2011, Time: 8PM
Cost: $20

Homegrown: Miguel
Grammy nominated artist Miguel, will perform selected songs from his debut album, All I Want Is You. Miguel, an "Eclectric" artist, currently has his hit "Sure Thing" on top of the Billboard charts.
After the performance, Miguel will have a Q&A, and take audience questions.
