I have been going to Los Tacos in Pasadena for their carnitas tacos for a few years now, and have always found them to be delicious--the carnitas is not too dry and very flavorful, the tortillas are warm and fresh, and there is just the right amount of onion and cilantro. They are very conveniently located on the corner of California and Fair Oaks, and because they have decent parking adjacent to the door it was always easy to run in, buy a few tacos, and get back on the road.

This last Saturday we were out shopping, and since it was way past lunchtime we decided to eat in. It wasn't until I'd ordered my tacos and drink that we realized that they only accepted cash. Since I had just spent mine, and my friend lives on her debit card, it was a bit awkward, to say the least. I offered to share mine, but she declined, opting to wait until she got home, but I felt bad about bringing her there when she couldn't get anything without cash. This is something you will need to keep in mind if you visit there-bring cash! My meal of 4 tacos and a drink was $8, so not Taco Bell my any means. But then again, you won't be getting carnitas tacos like this at Taco Bell.

I had automatically gotten the tacos, but as I was waiting I saw a few other dishes come out of the kitchen that looked very good. The nachos looked awesome, and the folks chowing down on them were obviously enjoying their meal. The burrito combo plate I saw go by was huge and looked delicious as well. From what I saw, and the tacos that I enjoyed, they are serving really good Mexican food here. Though I am partial to the carnitas, the carne asada and chicken looked equally good. Also on the menu were al pastor, birria, fish, chili verde, chicken mole, lengua and machaca. They also have a vegetarian plate and potato tacos, which I thought was really great since often times your vegetarian friends get stuck eating rice and beans if the group wants to eat Mexican. They have a decent sized menu, with the usual assortment of tacos, nachos, quesadillas, burritos, and enchiladas, and as I said, all looked very good.

Another bonus of Los Tacos is their salsa bar. They had three different heat levels of salsa: medium, hot, and fiery, and also some pickled jalapeno peppers that were excellent. Their tortilla chips are fresh and crisp, and are even better with the salsa.

The small storefront is not large, with about a dozen tables, but there is enough room that it doesn't feel cramped. It is very clean and tidy, which I do appreciate in these smaller restaurants. The restroom was clean, as well.

They are open 7 days, until late on Friday and Saturday nights.
