Lose Weight with Low Carb Diets

Maybe Carbs Not Fat is Your Downfall

Even though I am 6'6" tall and I have been that height since at least the eight grade,

Weight control can still be a problem for me. I can remember fighting weight control in my first year in medical school and I was 22 then. I was very active and played intramural sports but I grew up in New Orleans and was attending Tulane Medical School and I just could not eat like I used to and still wear the same clothes,

From 1969 to 2003, there were times my weight would see-saw. Even though I jogged every day, during most of those years, I could still gain weight. Fat free diets were not as effective as I felt they should be.

In 2003, a friend recommended the Atkins' Diet. I got the book and started to cut back on the carbs. No bread, no rice, no potatoes, no pasta no sugar. That sounds terrible for someone who grew up in New Orleans and ate rice with everything. Po Boy sandwiches, Oreo cookies and milk and banana fritters were my favorites.

The weight came off and I lost 35 lbs over about six months while continuing jogging. It is obvious to me that carbs put on more weight for me than fat and you may be like that.

There are lots of sugar free deserts out there and my favorite cookies now are made by Murray's. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables and all the meat and eggs you want and stay away from all those starches. You can eat well and enjoy sweets and keep the weight off. So if you can not lose weight with low fat then maybe you are a low carb person like me.

Exercise and eat right and you can be satisfied and control your weight. Now I ride a bike everyday instead of jogging since it is easier on my aging joints.
