Lose Yourself in a Book

SJD
Many people view reading as a way to escape and enter another world and another story. It is so easy to get caught up in a good book and lose yourself in the story. What many people don't realize is the importance of reading and what it can actually do for a person. So, why is reading as important as it is? Well there are many reasons, but a few that really stand out, and which you can carry with you the next time you pick up a Book.

Reading can bring you Comfort when you're feeling down. It is a way to escape the present for just a little while. There is absolutely nothing like curling up on the sofa with a good book and a nice hot cup of tea. It's important to treat yourself once in awhile and relax with some "just you" time. You will be amazed at how rejuvenating it can be.

It can provide Hope for the future. You've heard of The Happy Ending, well it can do more good than you know. Hope in the story can give you hope for your own life. It can help to show you your way even if you don't realize it at the time.

And how about Knowledge? Books teach you and although some people may not want to believe such a thing, you are learning as you are reading. You can learn so many different things from reading, which is in addition to just expanding your vocabulary. You may not pick up a book with the intention to learn, but that is in reality what you are doing. You are learning about the art of the language, and with every story you learn new tidbits of information.

Never underestimate the power of your Imagination. Even as an adult it's still important to use your imagination and reading helps you do this. In a book you can create your own story and become a character in that story, if not just to have some fun. You are viewing the world through another person's perspective, but yet you can still make it yours at the same time.

A book is the author's method of Communicating their story to the world. You are able to see the different ways in which different authors utilize our language and build sentences. You can then imagine how you would communicate your own story to the world. Everyone has a different style of writing, so what is yours?

Reading is much more Interactive than watching television or a movie. You are actively involved in the story and where it is going because if you weren't you would simply put the book down and be on your way. However, when watching television or a movie you can just lounge on the sofa whether or not you're even interested in the show, and zone out. When reading you are in the story and partaking in the events that are unfolding.

So, the next time you need something to elevate your mood, or you're debating between a Book or Television, pick up a book and lose yourself in the story.
