After what my dad went through with radiation and chemo I think I'll pass on those methods if I'm ever struck by this awful disease. His last round of radiation left him with no saliva. He no longer enjoyed eating. This was a man who truly loved food and my mother loves to cook. Probably one of the many reasons their marriage lasted for 50 years. I have several friends in the medical field and they have all told me they would not do radiation and chemo. Then, as if to reinforce that position, I just read about a woman who chose not to have her aggresive ovarian cancer treated with chemo and radiation. She had taken care of cancer patients and saw the devastating effects of these treatments. She chose to have her ovaries removed and changed her diet to raw foods and many supplements, including pancreatic enymes. She has now been healthy for 15 years. The American Cancer Society says that it was the surgery that saved her life. Well my father's was prostate cancer that was found very early 7 years ago. He had the prostate removed. Chemo and radiation were not even suggested. They only monitored his PSA. We had this false sense of security that all was well.
The spread of Dad's cancer was discovered 1 month after he retired. (after working for 46 years at the same place) He was having spells of double vision and they were having a hard time pinpointing the cause. His family doctor ordered an x-ray of his chest and it was then that a mass was found on one of his lungs. From there they found more areas of concern in his hip and femur. He had to have a pin put in one thigh bone. He did his first round of radiation and chemo and got through them quite well. Then more areas were found. What a surprise. Who would have thought that after we've assaulted his body with chemicals that destroy the immune system that the cancer would become more aggresive? I'm finding it harder and harder to believe that educated people think that this is the way to go. I'm not inclined to be cynical but it does seem that the people who feel that there is a cure for cancer but it's being withheld from us due to money may have a valid point.
My lesson from all of this is that I'm pushing myself more and more to an all organic raw food diet and trying to stay away from as many chemicals as I can.
Rest In Peace Daddy.
