Green tea has been around for thousands of years. Some stories date back to over 5,000 years ago and appear within many Chinese stories and legends.
In ancient China, tea was expensive and only drunk by the leaders and the wealthy of China. The tea leaves were used fresh and brewed into a tea. Some just ate the plant without the tea. Once the fall of the Mongolians occurred, all of China was able to drink tea, which of course included green tea.
When China ruled the seas in the 1400's, they gave their seaman great amounts of green tea. The antioxidants that were in the tea kept the men from getting scurvy, which was a big problem at the time.
Tea arrived on American shores through the Chinese immigrants who owned Chinese restaurants, and they served the tea at every meal. Tea also came from Europe through world tea trade routes.
Green tea is an incredible tea and is rich in anti oxidants. There have been many studies on the medicinal uses of green tea and most studies have proved favorable. Green tea has medicinal uses in cancer, cholesterol, infection, arthritis, immune dysfunction, heart health, and of course weight loss.
The weight loss studies have shown that drinking green tea can reduce appetites and stimulate fat reduction. It can also increase the metabolism. Green tea seems to accelerate the burning of calories. The researchers seem to believe that compounds within the green tea called flavonoids might change how the body uses a hormone, norepinephrine, which speeds the rate at which calories are burned. Green tea inhibits the movement of glucose in fat cells. By the glucose being regulated, green tea can help prevent insulin spikes, and as an overproduction of insulin results in fat storage, by drinking green tea it is possible to reduce the fat being stored.
A study in Switzerland found that drinking 2 to 3 cups of green tea a day caused an additional 80 calorie burn without increasing heart rates. Eighty calories a day might not sound like much, but added over a year, seven additional pounds are lost just by drinking green tea.
So try drinking green tea. You have nothing to lose but some extra pounds and you can even help your cholesterol through a sip of this amazing tea.
