Losing Weight with Susan Powter

Eat, Breathe, Move and Think Yourself Healthier

An inspiration to many, Susan Powter has manifested millions to eat, breathe, move and think, which is also her mantra. Over the past year, I have soaked in the information that Susan provides like a sponge, only to find out that she has been teaching all of us what we are all intrinsically designed to know from birth - how to loose weight WITHOUT dieting.

When we think of dieting, we often hope for a loose-weight-quickly type of scheme. This is never a healthy route to take. When we eat, we are to enjoy the foods that we are consuming and eat whole, preferably organic, grains, fruits and vegetables. There's a wealth of information available regarding the industry standards on how meats are processed, which makes it all the wiser to think about the foods we eat.

Oxygenated blood is perhaps some of the healthiest blood. When we move and breathe, we oxygenate ourselves and the cellular structures that are in our bodies begin to take note and react to our movement. It is simple, really - consume less of the refined sugars and saturated fats that many of us are accustomed to eating, with whole foods. Combine the nutrient rich foods with movement, and the weight that we are carrying around begins to fade. As we are losing weight, the lean muscle mass is generated under the fat.

An honest admission from me- I have a problem weighing myself. Susan advises against this - in fact, she suggests throwing out the scale altogether. We cannot let the numbers on a scale dictate how we feel or how we need to feel. Instead, as Susan often mentions, we need to look at ourselves, naked at "high noon" in a full length mirror to see what it is about ourselves that we want to change. It is often the hard realization that I have tried to ignore time and time again when I get ready to bathe. I simply undress and slip into the shower, without even looking at myself in the mirror. Now, I take the time to look at the weight that I have carried around for so long, and have realized that there are no curves where fat used to be.

I've really grown quite fond of Susan. She teaches me to use my brain to think for myself about the foods that I am eating, the amount of exercise that I provide myself, and to take pride in every small step that I achieve, even if it was accomplished through modified exercise routines. I dare say that I've even grown a bond with her through Twitter (@SusanPowter), which she's easily accessible. Her website, http://www.susanpowteronline.com/, is also a host of important information that is readily available, including to-die-for recipes, and even video blogs.
