Exercise is an important factor when it comes to losing weight but if you are not eating properly the results will often be less than satisfactory. In order for the body to lose weight it needs the proper nutrients for the best results as most of the time even if a person is exercising they will not lose weight without a good diet.

Most people should eat approximately six small sized meals a day or one every two to three hours. The most important thing to remember however is that each meal should consist of an equal portion of proteins, carbohydrates, and green vegetables. An easy way to measure portion size without weighting is making it about the size of your fist.

More specifically there are certain kinds of foods which are best for obtaining the necessary amounts of proteins, carbohydrates, and green vegetables needed for losing weight. When it comes to proteins eat lean meats, chicken breasts, egg whites, and whey proteins.

For carbohydrates a good mix of complex carbohydrates is recommended. For example yams, whole grain breads, brown rice, nuts and also simple carbohydrates such as fruit. When it comes to green vegetables the choices are pretty obvious, to list a few spinach, broccoli, and asparagus.

The way food is prepared is also immensely important. Baking and grilling food is much healthier compared to frying, unnecessary fat will not help you lose weight and is often counterproductive. Another good idea is to always choose olive oil when possible as it is healthier than other types of oil. Skipping meals is also never good as it is unhealthy and will not help you lose weight; often people eat a lot more at dinner than usual if they skipped lunch for example.

Losing weight is a task that can be accomplished by anyone and the results are definitely worth the effort. Staying healthy has many short term benefits along with long term ones like not getting sick as often and of course living longer. So plan out a healthy diet today and start losing weight as soon as possible, you will not regret it!
