Losing Weight Without Having Saggy Skin

The question in thought is: Can you lose a significant amount of weight and not experience saggy skin? I'm not talking about 5, 10 or even 20 pounds. We are talking about those of us that have 100 or more pounds to lose to get to a desirable, goal body weight for optimal health. I plan on losing 150 pounds in the very near future and I am terrified of the potential of sagging skin.

You hear about dieting and weight loss everywhere. It is a fact that being at a healthy weight is good for you. It is not healthy to weight 100 pounds more than you should. With that said, it is also hard to lose that weight once it is on. Right? If you have decided to lose the extra pounds, how will you ensure that your skin does not become saggy, floppy and toneless?

Research has shown that if you lose weight at a slow and steady pace, your skin is less likely to become saggy during weight loss. If you try to lose 100 pounds in six months, your skin will likely become very saggy. Nutritionists and doctors recommend losing approximately two pounds per week for optimal results. If you have 100 pounds to lose, you can lose that amount in one year.

What you consume also plays a large factor in this game. You can not feed your body junk and expect it to treat you well in return. Drinking sodas and teas will not help your body to remain hydrated. Instead, opt for water. Water will keep your body well-hydrated and it will help your skin stay elastic. This will encourage your skin to snap back as you lose the weight rather than sagging where the fat once laid. Eat nutritious foods that are good for your body and high in protein, rather than high in calories and fat.

Unfortunately, age does contribute to sagging skin. If you are 18 and need to lose a significant amount of weight, your skin is less likely to get saggy during weight loss than that of a 85 year old doing the same program. As we get older, our metabolisms slow down and gravity takes a toll on our bodies anyways. It is best to lose any extra weight early on, if possible.

One major key to preventing sagging skin after weight loss is exercise. Exercising daily will help to prevent droopy, toneless body skin. Cardiovascular exercises and weight training should be together for best results.
