Loss

Elena dal Friuli
It has been two weeks
Since the news you closed your eyes
My heart still aches as I think of you
My tears still flow, my cries still rise.

The last time I spoke with you
Down memory lane you went
It was only four weeks ago
That time on the phone we spent.

Five thousand miles away
But not an inch apart
Our bond through the years grew
As we reached for each other's heart.

The summers we spent together
The lessons you have taught
Will forever live within me
With the love you always brought.

It is to you, my dear sweet great-aunt
That this poem I now compose
One day the tears will stop their flow
But my love for you will never slow.
