Loss of a Friendship - How to Bounce Back and Stay Positive

Painful Part of Life, so What to Do About Friendly Fire?

Oodles

Friends, oh friends. We need them. We share them. We trust and sometimes truly love them. They land a hand, they lend a shoe, they lend a dollar, we lend some too.

An old quote by Samuel Butler(a novelist in the 19th century) goes "Friendship is like money, easier made than kept." And it is so true if you look around today. Especially with the recent dawn of the Facebook and Twitter generation. A few clicks and BAM, a new friend. Yay.. wait, who are you?!

Friendship is very important. It improves our psychology and gives us strength in times of hardship. But sometimes we lose friends. Why? Because they move away, or unfriend us, or because we drift apart, because of a feud, maybe because of death even.

So what do you do when you've been separated from a friend because of a conflict? Here are a few suggestions:

Send an Email
Emails are great, because you can pause and edit and reflect before clicking send. Maybe through a kind word you can heal the wounds of the past. Maybe it was just a misunderstanding, and you'll likely find your ex-friend turn into a new friend!

What about cases where it is hopeless?
You're tough and you will be fine! Just write down your feelings and move on! Yes, put it to words.
Write a short diary, with all the lessons you've learned. Perhaps you've learned that you should not divulge too much to a friend. Perhaps you decided that you need to be more selective about who's shoulder to cry on.

Sometimes there are money issues that create schisms. Sometimes you just wanted to avoid a vulgar personality, and that is a noble reason!

Find Other Friends!
The world has over seven billion people. Believe it or not, you CAN move on! An easy way to find new friends is to join a sports club, a yoga class, find a hobby, etc. Maybe even hang out at the local coffee shop!

Another way is to volunteer somewhere! That way you'll meet people who are definitely decent folk!

Get involved with Hobbies

Now that you have a little more time, pick up a hobby! If you aren't sure about which one to do, just browse YouTube for crafts and how-to videos! You can learn new languages, play new sports, and read a new genre of literature.

Reach out to your relatives

How about all those cousins and in-laws and 2nd-uncles? Why not call one of them, to cheer them up? If we are not friends with family, then what is the point of family? Is it not slightly depressing that we often(and I'm very guilty here) ignore our relatives?

To summarize, life is full of challenges. Life is about adapting to the circumstances, working and managing change. Once you have the right attitude, you will not be slowed down when the inevitable roadblock appears.
