Lost is Back! Final Season Premiere Review

The Premiere of the Final Season of Lost was Exciting and Mysterious

Confusion is back.

I'm completely Lost, and I'm ok with that.

The past two hours have been a wild ride through jungles both urban and actual, watching the premiere of the sixth and final season of Lost.

If the premiere is any indication, the final season of Lost will be just as exciting and intriguing as always. The premiere starts with a brief reminder of where Lost left off, and then quickly jumps back into the always twisted story of life on and off the island.

Wait, life on the island? What happened to the bomb that was supposed to fix everything and send the Lost back to the beginning? The bomb did go off, but it didn't have the effect. Jack thought it would, instead apparently creating an alternate timeline. The final season goes back and forth between two Lost realities - one on the island and one in a world where the bomb "fixed" everything. Initially this is confusing, as the show jumps back and forth between the Lost island and alternate timeline without explanation, but the situation becomes obvious soon enough.

In the alternate timeline, life for the Lost goes on as it would have - Oceanic 815 lands in Los Angeles, and after brief encounters the characters go their own ways. Christian Shepard is still a wild card, and his body is lost by the airline. I was somewhat disappointed with the new alternate timeline. I want the final season to wrap everything up, and instead it creates an entirely new story. The writers will have to bring these timelines together if they want to keep their viewers interested in the final season, and with the topsy-turvy nature of Lost, I wouldn't be surprised if they pull it off.

Back on the island, the final season promises to be just as insane as usual. The characters come to one at a time, realize the bomb didn't work, and set about rescuing Juliet from the rubble. Meanwhile, at the statue on the beach, "Locke" has tricked Ben into killing Jacob. But who is Locke really? That's one cliff-hanger they aren't willing to give up just yet, and I like it. One of my favorite things about Lost is the mystery surrounding everything, and while I want explanations, they shouldn't all be in the premiere. Oh, and while we're on mystery - there are some new Others on the island too, as yet unexplained. I can't wait to find out the story there, but again I hope it connects and wraps up everything.

The final season premiere also brought back some familiar Lost faces we haven't seen in a while - Boone, Charlie and Desmond. Other characters, most notably Walt, Michael and Shannon are so far absent, but I wouldn't count them out merely because they weren't in the premier.

The Lost final season premiere, despite the potentially disappointing alternate timeline, was everything I hoped it would be. I'm looking forward to finally discovering the mysteries of the island in the final season.

Me too! I'm kind of afraid they're going to get off on these tangents with the new Others and the alternate timeline and not explain everything as well as they could.

I'm ready for some answers and they better not be any of the ones they have already "discounted."
