Lost : An In-depth Analysis of ABC's Hit Drama

The Second Season

Lost's second season has begun, and already a fellow survivor is to be killed off in the next episode. So what exactly makes Lost what it is?

Is it Hurley's funny and crazy stories that seem to put a smile on everyone's face? Or maybe the steamy love triangles formed between the survivors such as Shannon, the departed Boone, and Sayid, and Jack, Sawyer, and Kate? Is it Locke's constant obsession with the island and his struggles with the rest of the survivors? Or is it the warmth and kindness that radiates from good old Rose?

One thing this show seems to bring to the table is it's sense of creativity. Just when you think you have all the questions answered and all the characters figured out, fate comes along and jacks everything up. For instance, now we know what was in the hatch, but what exactly was the man in the hatch meant to do, and what danger will they be in if he doesn't fulfill that purpose?

And now we know what happened to the survivors in the other half of the plane, but why is their leader so resistant to trust or help the other survivors? And who or what exactly are the "Others"? JJ Abrams and the entire crew of Lost seems to have put together one of the most intriguing, bizarre, and incredibly interesting shows in television.

One key aspect of the show is the way each episode seems to help figure out each character and their past. Just when you thought you knew Sawyer and how bad a man he was, he goes and let's Jack know the truth about his father, showing Sawyer's softer side. Even though a lot of past has been built onto each character, there is no guarantee that we can even trust some of them, now can we? Only time will tell.

In conclusion, this show in my opinion proves to be one of the world's most gripping dramas. It seems to show a sense of every genre we know of from Hurley's comedy, the survivor's love and drama, to each character's worst nightmares or horrors. This show by far stands out as one of the most beloved in the world and will continue to be as long as it airs. So are you lost? Decide for yourself.
