Lost & Found Gets Picked Up by NBC - Finally

Todd Matthews
I happen to have a wee bit of insight into this one. It was way back in December of 2005 when I was first summoned to the film set of Conviction by Wolf Exec Nena Rodrigue to meet Dick Wolf himself. He was looking to weave a tale of John and Jane Does -- and had found me in the mix. We talked and I returned home, unsure if I would ever hear from them again.

Out of the blue in mid 2006 --- I got a call from Nena Rodrigue once again. She hooked me up with writer Christine Levinson, and we began to knit a tale. Well...Chris knitted -- I just gave her some yarn, lots and lots of yarn.

It was late in 2006 I saw the first draft of the pilot script -- I was surprised and pleased to say the least. A much different type of tale that current crime dramas. It also seemed to bring a smile to TV exec's -- but they still fell short of a greenlight. Then the writers strike all but dashed any remaining hope. But Chris reminded me that in Hollywood things could change in the blink of an eye -- she certainly held onto hope and we stayed in touch.

I was in a hotel in Georgetown, Kentucky when I got a message to call Chris late on Friday July 25th, 2008. I feared the worst but hoped for the best as I dialed the number and heard her voice. I could tell by the initial small talk she sounded happy. She did indeed have good news -- NBC had picked up the script. Lost and Found had been resurrected after months of limbo. My whole world started to spin --- and we had a lot of work to do.

Lost & Found is situated to be a much more realistic look at the plight of John & Jane Doe cases. Current shows often process crime in an almost science fiction fashion. But with Lost & Found --- the realities of the cause are the ghosts that haunt the characters as they have haunted me for 20 years. I'll be hanging around "Lost & Found" (in various forms and fashion as you will see) to help keep it all real.

Just wait until you hear / watch the rest of the story! The Wolves are a tight lipped pack -- so my lips are sealed as well...for now.

Todd's calling to be a voice for missing and unidentified persons began when he solved the identity of the "Tent Girl" case, Barbara Hackman-Taylor, after a ten-year journey that ended in 1998.  View profile
