Lost Halloween Costume Idea: Be a Lost Cast Extra

Khara E. House
Many costumers will likely be focused on the stars of their favorite shows, be it for Halloween or any other costume parties. One of the most popular show choices might be ABC's Lost. The unfortunate reality is that with any show, including Lost, many folks will likely try to style themselves after the leads: that means you might not be the only Jack, Kate, Sawyer, or Sayiid to show up to the party. So instead of dressing as one of the stars of Lost, try heading out as an extra!

Oceanic Flight 815 Flight Attendant
For females, this costume is very simple. If you don't already have one in your closet, go out and buy yourself a nice pale blue dress shirt, one that easily accommodates a tie. Find, cut, or buy a strip of blue cloth; use this as a feminine neck-tie. Find yourself a dark blue suit jacket and a dark blue skirt, knee length. You'll want a pair of dress flats, or heels, whichever you'll be more comfortable walking around in for an evening. Tie your hair up in a ponytail if it's long enough, or clip it back behind your ears; you're a flight attendant, so look "professional". That is, of course, unless you're a post-crash flight attendant . . . in which case, shake that hair up, and tussle it up! Cut a pair of wings from a piece of yellow or grey paper, and tape or pin it to either your chest on the light blue shirt or the lapel of your suit jacket. A nice finishing touch would be a computer generated print out of a Flight 815 boarding pass or ticket. Simply use a piece of card stock, and a simple font like Courier New to type your name (Last, First), Flight 815, and some other false information (like the fact that your destination is Los Angeles and your departure location was Australia); for a post-crash touch, burn the edges of your "ticket." Extra touches for a post-crash look might include rubbing some brown face paint on your face (to resemble dirt or jet fuel), and smear some dirt and/or sand on your suit.

Dharma Initiative Worker
This costume works for a male or female. It's extremely easy, if you can find a tan jumpsuit. If you can't find a jumpsuit, simply find yourself a khaki dress shirt and dress pants. Add brown work boots to complete the basics. Rub dirt all over your jumpsuit or shirt and pants, to make it look like you've been stranded on an island for a very long time. Make a print out of the Dharma Initiative logo (you can find it pretty much anywhere online) and pin or tape it to your costume. For an added touch, let long hair go loose and disheveled, or buy a wig with long hair; rub dirt and oil into it to add a grittier look. Grow or draw yourself a five o'clock shadow (use a marker, pen, or face paints to create a light beard if you can't grow one). Add tears to your costume, and use red paint or ketchup for blood stains . . . because who knows what's happened to you during your stint on the island?

One of the Others
This costume idea is also extremely easy. Simple find some earth-toned clothes in your closet, or buy yourself any earth-toned clothes (khakis, pale greens, lilac shades, etc). Go with layers if you can; the Others are often seen wearing khaki or grey vests over their clothes, or some sort of earth-toned hooded shirt. Girls and guys can wear some sort of bandanna over their hair. Guys can go for a Mister Friendly look with a fake beard. Once again, rubbing dirt on yourself, and earthy colored paints on your clothes, add to the look to suggest you've been on an island for a long, long time.

Drive Shaft Groupie
We don't see too many of these on Lost, but it's not hard to get an idea for a Drive Shaft groupie look from simply observing Charlie. Find a black t-shirt and blue jeans. Borrow or buy a Virgin Mary statuette (reminiscent of Charlie's special island friends). Tape your fingers with bandage strips or masking tape, and write DRIVE SHAFT on them, putting a letter on each strip. You can also take along a guitar, fake microphone, and/or guitar pick.
