Lost in the Mail?

Still No Pictures!

Teresa Mahieu
A few years back I had called my mother to let her know that I had sent her some photographs. Anxiously she awaited their arrival. The next day she e-mailed me, "no package in todays mail". As letters usually take overnight or 2 nights from me to her or vice-versa through the U.S. Postal Service I wasn't too concerned. Then the next day she sent another e-mail, "Still no package today, I hope they aren't lost". Wanting to quell her anxiety over the possibility of the photographs being lost in the mail, snail mail as some call it, I sent her the following reply:

Still no pictures?

Boo Hoo Boo Hoo

Hopefully someday

They'll find their way

To you;

Or maybe they'll

Come back to me,

The goof I made

For me to see.

A big brown envelope

Couldn't get lost...

Misplaced maybe,

Oh what a cost.

Keep on looking,

Searching and seeking,

The pictures will appear

I'm thinking!!

Mom got a real kick out of my little rhyme and a good laugh helps calm many anxieties. Seems poetry is a good form of communication in many situations.

The envelope did eventually arrive, postage due!! Oops, my bad!! What did I learn from this experience? When sending precious family photographs to a loved one it's best to take the envelope to the post office and have it weighed to insure proper postage is affixed. Enough said.

Happy mailing folks!!

This reminds me that I have to add more postage since the rates went up! Wonderful picture and article! You sure favor your mother. :-)

Excellent piece, and beautiful picture too. Thanks for sharing this. I don't trust snail mail at all. I had a car payment not reach its destination and a couple of other pieces of mail since moving to my apartment. Who knows where they ended up, and it wasn't a case of not having enough postage. I use it as little as possible. Too bad about your pictures. I hope they eventually turn up!
