Lost Season 4 Trailer, Spoilers and Speculation

Spoiler Warning

Pam Gaulin
Despite the fact that ABC's Lost has not been seen in prime time since May of 2007, the TV drama has not lost any momentum with fans. ABC's Lost will be returning on Thursday, January 31, 2008 with a two-hour premiere appropriate titled Lost: The Return.

ABC's Lost will stay in its new Thursday at 9pm time slot, after its temporary move to Wednesdays at 10pm (from Wednesdays at 9pm). Season Four of ABC's Lost will have 16 brand new episodes. Fans everywhere are dying to know: What will happen? Who will live? Who will die? Who will get off the island?

Lost Season 4 is Under Lock and Key

In a growing trend, entertainment companies are becoming more close-mouthed about plots, story lines, and even casting, when it comes to popular movies and TV shows. Disney released very little information about the plot of National Treasure: The Book of Secrets before the film's official release, and the creators of ABC's Lost are following suit.

According to ABC's Lost Executive Producer, Carlton Cuse, this season, more than any other will be more secretive than others.

"They have clamped down 'enormously' this year on the distribution of show materials outside of need-to-know circles," according to a Variety interview with Cuse.

Cuse went on to say that they have even sent written fake material for casting calls (Variety).

Part of the reason for this is to maintain the entertainment experience for the viewer. There is obviously a financial reason, too. Some people may not actually watch the show if they already know what will happen.

With all the secret moves, and fans anxiously awaiting to see what happens next, what is a fan to do?

Speculate, of course, by examining the few rich morsels that ABC has given us in Lost: Missing Pieces videos, and to dissect the two trailers for the Season 4 premiere of the show.

Extended Trailer for Season 4 of ABC's Lost

In true Lost there are some mysterious images in the extended and dark preview trailer. The trailer itself will thrill fans, and in typical Lost style, answers questions but poses many more.

There are two explosions, one inside and one outside, under what looks like a pile of fruit.

There is a new Dharma symbol, the Hydra.

An animal skull foretells death.

The number six is important. There is a new Dharma Station video for Dharma Station 6: The Orchid that was released by ABC.

A third group is introduced into the mix. This group has a motive for going to the island, which has nothing to do with the castaways. They may or may not be part of the Dharma Group.

The Others and the castaways will break down into two groups, fighting each other, and fighting the third group.

Season Four Episodes

Sometimes information can be gleaned from episode titles and descriptions. Most of the descriptions and episode titles have not yet been released by ABC.

Scouring the next for bits and pieces of information on upcoming episodes came up with the following information:

Season Four Episode One: The Beginning of the End (Episode 72) - The title itself comes from end of Season Three.

"Making that call is the beginning of the end," Ben told Jack.

The official description: "The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must continue to work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. But as they have discovered during their 80-plus days on the island, danger and mystery loom behind every corner, and those they thought could be trusted may turn against them. Even heroes have secrets..."

Season Four Episode Two: Confirmed Dead - (Episode 73)

This title solidifies the theory that someone, and probably more than one someone, dies in the premiere episode.

Season Four Episode Three: The Economist - (Episode 74)

Said to be a flash forward episode with Sayid.

Season Four Episodes Four through Six: Not available

Season Four, Episode 7: Ji Yeon - (Episode 79) According to BuddyTV.com there are scenes from this episode which show Jin's character in a city, and from the details, it is presumably a flash forward episode. It is likely that neither Sun or Jin will die in the Season Four premiere. But Jin may not make it through Season Four.

Lost Season 4 Characters

Jack

Based on the flash forward from the end of last season, and from the Lost Season 4 preview, we know that Jack and Kate do get off the island. We also know that Jack is trying to get back on the island. This has been made very clear.

Jack is a big believer in fate, so whatever is wrong in the world and in his life, he is attributing to leaving the island.

"We weren't supposed to leave," Jack tells Kate.

Although we know Jack leaves the island, it won't be right away. He will be there for some of the confrontations with the new enemies on the island.

Ben

Does Ben Finally Die?

This guy has more lives than Catwoman. Jack almost killed him, and actually pretty convincingly said he would. Then John is holding the gun to Ben's face. Sawyer also holds a gun to his head. How many times do they threaten this man and why can't they kill him?

Will Ben die? They haven't killed him off yet, he is too evil to kill off just yet. He is too powerful. He knows too much.

"Ben was supposed to be in three episodes of season two," Lindelof says. "Now it's impossible to (imagine) the show without him." (Variety).

Jacob

We also see Christian Shepard, Jack's father is alive, or it could be flashback. There is wide speculation across the web that Christian Shepard is the mysterious Jacob. Comments by the Lost creators don't seem confirm this.

"Yes, we do know how Jacob will be depicted. Notice the careful wording of my answer. And no, Jacob did not appear before he was met by Locke," Cuse said. (Source: Sci Fi Wire)

Returning Characters

Michael will be back, and so will Walt.

Naomi is alive.

Charlie will also be back in some form. We see him with Hurley in the trailer.

The creators of the show have 48 more episodes to reveal the whole story.

I've been watching the show on ABC website for awhile and honestly, I just can't keep watching the show after I finished with the first season and I fianlly stopped watching the show after I started with the third season. I totally lost my motivation to keep watching because it's so boring and the show was too much keep extending the island secrets (It would have been great if the show revealed big secret that would stunning audience once in a while, but not at all) I feel at the end of each season nothing really big had happened, or something big like a black smoke that facing with Mr.Eko suddenly came up, what is that???, could you make it a little more stunning? Nothing exciting to keep motivate audience to watch the show (may be that's why the rating start to decline since the end of first season). One more thing, during each episode, it's okay to add some background of each character as a minor storyline, but almost every episode I watched they put minor story line as a major, It
