The last time Lost took a one week break was after episode 8, just after almost all of the survivors ended up in 1977 at the DHARMA Initiative. Since then, the survivors have almost destroyed time and then repaired it, with the shooting and faithful saving of young Ben Linus. But the cost was that the long held cover story of Sawyer/LaFleur and those left behind is all but shattered.
Before this final break, grown up Ben was spared by the smoke monster and forced to serve the resurrected Locke once and for all in 2007. 30 years earlier in DHARMAville, ghost whisperer Miles came to terms with his daddy issues - with his daddy being DHARMA icon Pierre Chang/Marvin Candle - just as the long gone Daniel Faraday returned to the island.
After that final shot of Daniel, Lost had to delay what happens next for two weeks. If they didn't delay Season 5 Episode 14, the two-hour season finale would air on May 6 instead of May 13, and ABC couldn't have that happen so early.
So Season 5's 14th episode is set for April 29th, and in its place, yet another Lost clip show aired. But the show, entitled "The Secrets of the Oceanic 6" felt like it was meant to air before Lost's last one week break. It mostly focused on the Oceanic 6's return, and didn't include much of the events that happened afterwards, including their role in turning young Ben evil.
But to make up for it, Lost has a mere three weeks left to end its fifth and almost final season. The delayed, landmark 100th episode is already being hyped as being extremely worth the wait. Co-mastermind Carlton Cuse has already said that the episode, entitled "The Variable" is his favorite of the season.
"The Variable" is being teased with the summary that Daniel Faraday "finally comes clean" with everything he knows. Given that he knows so much about the island's powers, and has close ties to two of the island's most powerful exiled leaders in Charles Widmore and mother Eloise Hawking, one must wonder if they can fit in everything Daniel knows in an hour. Of course, this presumes that he actually would answer everything.
"The Variable" finally airs on Wednesday, April 29th at 9, kicking off the rush to the big Season 5 finale on May 13.
