LOST Season 5 Finale Predictions

Where Will They Be Lost Next

Erik Wesley
LOST Season 5 is about to come to a close, and with it a number of the grand mysteries of LOST may go the way of the polar bears. Here we take a look at a few of the many mysteries of LOST that may see their resolution before the end of season 5.

Jacob will be revealed.
It has to happen sometime, and now is the best possible option. Jacob's role on the island is too important to remain clouded in such mystery for too much longer, and this could be the big reveal of the season.

And just what will be Jacob's purpose? Jacob has seemed throughout the series to represent the will of the island. In this curve of the story, all that remains for the survivors to uncover before they can rush headlong into fulfilling their purpose on the island is for their purpose to be revealed. And who better to reveal their purpose that our mysterious, shady, unseen leader of the island: Jacob.

It would not be surprising either for Jacob to be revealed as a character who will reprise his role throughout the entire 6th season. There are many mysteries left to be uncovered, and Jacob appears to be the real man behind the curtain, pulling the strings and watching his marionettes dance. Whether this is for better or worse, only the writers can say. They're not talking...yet.

We will learn what happened to Claire.
Forgot about her? That's the way these things work. Expect that when we see our good buddy Jacob revealed, Claire will not be far behind (or before).

For those who don't remember (or who missed it in the first place) Claire is the mother of baby Aaron who left her baby with her dead father towards the end of season 4. Since then baby Aaron has been left in the care of his grandmother, and now Kate, who had been keeping the baby safe, has returned to save Claire.

Keep in mind however that Kate is in the 1977, and Claire was last seen in 2004. Whether she made the jump back in time or not remains a mystery.

Charles Widmore, Penny, and Desmond will arrive on the island.
That's right, a prediction from left field. Desmond was told by Daniel Farraday's mother that the island wasn't done with him yet. Well, what better time to bring him back than in the midst of the storm that will be the season 5 finale?

But Widmore and Penny?

Penny is an easy one; she wouldn't leave Desmond's side after having lost him for so long. The jury is still out on whether or not she will return to the island with Desmond.

Charles Widmore, however still has much stake in island, and since his battle with Benjamin Linus is not yet over, it only makes sense that he would return to the island for the final confrontation. Also, Charles has the resources to find the island to bring Desmond back as well.

The Incident will occur, and we will finally learn the purpose of the Swan Dharma Station.
This is an easy one, seeing as all the preparation work has been done to set the scene for the Incident which caused Dr. Marvin Candle, a.k.a. Miles Strom's father, to lose his arm and which caused the numbers to need to be entered every 108 minutes at the Swan to keep the world from ending.

This has been hinted at all season, most recently by Hurley seeing the workers stamp the ominous numbers on the hatch door and the tooth filling which killed the man Miles was hauling around as a package for his father.

It helps too that the season finale's title is, unsurprisingly, "The Incident."

The 1970's will end.
All good things must come to an end, and we've watched the survivor's good situation at Dharma quickly degrade into a perilous one. Odds are that the Incident will bring the survivor's time with Dharma to a close and return them back to the modern age.

This one only makes sense given that Ben Linus, who is currently a child from Dharmaville but living with the others after his miraculous healing at their temple, does not recognize the survivors in the future when they crash on the island. If the survivors remain in the 70s too long, they will eventually become a victim of Ben's genocidal nerve gas attack which wipes out all of Dharma.

Keep in mind too that Farraday, the keeper of time and space for the survivors, has just arrived back on the island with a "we've got work to do" look on his face.

Sun and Jin will be reunited.
If it doesn't happen in the finale, it will come soon after. Once the survivors are returned to the present day, it seems only natural that Sun and Jin's long-awaited reunion will be close at hand.

Someone important will die.
You knew that not all of these people would remain all the way through to the end. The writers or LOST are fantastic storytellers, and know what will really pack a punch, and that means we can expect to lose at least one more of our motley crew of favorites.

To figure out whose death warrant the writers have signed, look to those people whose stories have played out to fruition, or who are at least very close to that. The island likes to claim the lives of people who have come to terms with all of the bad things in their life, and have achieved their "redemption moment."

Two possibilities stand out:

Sawyer: Sawyer seems the primary candidate for death. We have seen him gradually become the upstanding guy that we all knew was deep inside him. It seems that accomplishing his mission of killing the "real" Sawyer, Locke's father, brought closure to all of his childhood issues and allowed him to shine as a strong leader. It could be just too bad that he has become such a shining star of hope, because the island may just decide that his role is finished.

Ben Linus: Though he may have a part to play yet given Charles Widmore's conflict with him, Ben Linus has effectively been neutered of any influence he once had. No one trusts him, which means his manipulation can go no further. We've seen how he became the "lying, scheming, and above all diabolical Ben Linus" through Sayid's assassination attempt and Ben's subsequent healing by the Others. And last but not least, the island put the leash on him and gave Locke the chain when it told him through his dead daughter that if he did anything against Locke the smoke monster would beat him like a drumstick.

We will learn what lies in the shadow of the statue.
The big question that the writers of LOST have posed to us for this end of the season is, "What lies in the shadow of the statue?" It only makes logical sense that whatever this thing is that awaits discovery is important to the current storyline, and will be revealed before the season's conclusion.

So what DOES lie in the shadow of the statue?

Hurley will give Charlie the guitar he's been lugging around all season.
I will let you all draw your own conclusions on this one!

Keep watching out for the end of season 5 of LOST, and look for what promises to be a fantastic season finale.
