Freederm is effective, as long as you order the medicated formula.
For parents who are diligently trying to find a lotion or cream without steroids to help their kid with eczema, then Freederm may not be an option. However, I can personally say that Freederm medicated lotion was very effective for my daughter who had been suffering from severe eczema for more than a year. At the time we first used Freederm, we had spent the previous 15 months trying an extensive allergy elimination diet, along with numerous other natural approaches. My daughter took Omega-3 supplements, we tried homeopathic remedies, and natural oatmeal baths were a daily routine. While improvements occurred, my three year old daughter was still very uncomfortable and hadn't been able to sleep through the night due to itching for over a year.
When used in conjunction with the Freederm eczema soap, the medicated version of the lotion, which does contain a small amount of steroids, can be so effective that the kid with eczema using it may only need to apply the lotion for a few days before virtually all signs of eczema resolve for an extended period of time. So, despite the fact that this product does contain steroids, it can be very effective, very quickly, meaning that a kid with eczema need only be exposed to the steroids for a very short period of time. My daughter experienced extreme relief within moments of using the Freederm eczema soap, and after a few days of applying the medicated Freederm lotion, her symptoms virtually disappeared. For the following three years, we only needed to apply the Freederm sparingly once every couple of months, to combat mild flare-ups. At that point, my daughter's eczema appeared to go into remission completely, for more than 2 years.
If you decide to order Freederm, which is not available in any stores, be sure to call in your order, and specifically ask for the medicated formula. If you simply order online, you will be sent the non-medicated variety, which for us, did not help my daughter in any way. In fact, the non-medicated formula actually made her eczema worse. There are dozens, possibly hundreds, of online posts containing similar stories of problems with the non-medicated formula.
Many people achieve relief with Emu Cream.
When my daughter's eczema reappeared a year ago, I found myself looking for ways to help a kid with eczema using lotions that did not contain steroids. Emu oil products receive some very positive online reviews in reference to helping kids with eczema. We tried the Laid in Montana Sensitive Skin Cream, purchased at the Montana Emu Ranch website. This cream did help my daughter for a couple of months. However, due to the fact that a lot of product must be used, the $29.99 (2oz.) container wasn't lasting very long. We went through 3 containers in about 2.5 months. So, while it was helping, I continued to search for an effective, but less expensive non-steroidal eczema solution.
Burt's Bees might be just what you're looking for.
Burt's Bees Beeswax Hand Crème with Almond Milk has been effective for my daughter in alleviating the itching associated with eczema. It also smells very good, which is nice because typically, a kid with eczema never gets to use any type of creams or lotions that have any odor at all. Burt's Bees Beeswax Hand Crème is also very easy and convenient to purchase, as it is available at Target, Wal-Mart, as well as many grocery chain stores. This fact can be especially helpful in situations such as arriving to your vacation destination, only to realize you didn't pack your child's eczema cream. With the previous two products listed in this article, obtaining more eczema cream on vacation would be terribly difficult. As Freederm and Emu oil cream are only available online, another drawback is that your order always includes a $6-$10 shipping charge.
Burt's Bees Beeswax Hand Crème only seemed to eliminate the eczema on my daughter's hands, by ensuring that the skin on her hands never gets too dry. However, her problem areas, the skin on the inside of both elbows, have not improved aside from the fact that the Burt's Bees product alleviates itching for an extended period of time, allowing my daughter to sleep through the night comfortably. Burt's Bees Beeswax Crème is also far more budget-friendly, priced at only $9 per 2oz. jar.
If you are looking for ways to help a kid with eczema, any one of these products may be very beneficial. As for us, we will likely resort to ordering more of the medicated Freederm, in an attempt to achieve the same degree of cure that we experienced several years ago. Don't hesitate, though, to read the impressive personal stories of eczema success on the Montana Emu Ranch website, as the product may be just what you need to help a kid who has eczema. All kids are different, so some will respond really well to Emu oil products. Further, consider trying Burt's Bees Beeswax Hand Crème with Almond Milk before ordering a product like Freederm, to see if the kid with eczema that you need to help will respond well to a non-steroidal product.
