Lotions that Will Provide Relief for Dry Winter Skin

Nicole Lang
Winter weather can affect skin by making it dry, itchy and uncomfortable. All lotions claim to relieve dry, itchy skin but which self-proclaimed dry skin relief versions are really worth the money.

Aveeno

Any variety of Aveeno lotion is fantastic for dry, itchy winter skin. Made with its famous colloidal oatmeal helps skin absorb moisture quickly and effectively. For those with really sensitive skin, Aveeno comes highly recommended. Available in any drugstore for between $6-$12 depending on size, Aveeno is a great lotion for the harsh winter months.

Neutrogena Moisture Wrap Daily Repair

On my last trip to CVS for a new bottle of Aveeno I happened to come across a new lotion by Neutrogena called Moisture Wrap Daily Repair. As a fan of other Neutrogena products, I decided to try it out. This product claims to use a Norweigian Formula which helps set it apart. It worked fantastic and my skin feels nice and moisturized hours after it is applied. For those with severe winter skin they also had an actual moisture wrap. For $9 a bottle it is worth the purchase.

Nivea SOS Relief Body Lotion

Nivea is another trusted brand in skincare. According to the bottle the secret to dry skin relief for Nivea is panthenol and calendula oil. This formulation seems a bit greasier than the previous two. However it still does the trick. Nivea products are quality products and their sole focus is on skincare making them experts in the field.

All three products will help relieve you of dry, itchy, winter skin to the degree that a lotion can.

Kiehl's Crème de Corps

This lotion is a bit more expensive than the previous three and not as easy to find. It is found at Nordstrom's and online at www.kiehls.com. This lotion uses beta-carotene for its dry skin relief. Another product that does what it says. The cost of this product however is a bit steep. For a small 2.5 oz bottle it is $9 and for a normal 8.5 oz. bottle it is $25. The previous three lotions all cost under $10 for the same 8.5 oz bottle and do the trick.

This is a high quality product that does work fantastic, however if you are looking for something a little less expensive the previous three will do the trick.

Whatever you choice for a lotion to help you with your dry skin, keep in mind that lotion is not always the fix all. Sometimes severe dry skin that cracks and hurts deeply must be looked at by a dermatologist who might prescribe something a little more potent than what can be found over the counter.
