Lou Dobbs Weighing Run for President in 2012?

Sarah U.
You've probably heard the news, Lou Dobbs, ex-CNN anchor is looking toward the future---in a big way. His departure from CNN was nothing short of sudden and was said to be centered the public's opposition to his views regarding immigration. Now, that he has left his journalist position in the dust, Dobbs' is thinking that there is a better position for him out there, President of the United States.

How would Dobbs' entry into the 2012 election change the face of politics as we know it today? Well, for one thing, Dobbs' has repeatedly questioned whether Obama was actually born in the U.S., in addition to his many other criticisms surrounding immigration. Therefore, I think it's safe to say that attempting a run for the Democratic Party is completely out of the question. Although there is a great amount of speculation that he may take the independent route altogether.

So how would Dobbs' get elected for the position? His celebrity status may aid him a bit, who hasn't heard of Lou Dobbs? On the other hand, his reputation that he earned on the air may hinder him. There's speculation that it would be a good idea for him to join the Palin ticket, that is if he's willing to accept the title of V.P. Just less than two weeks after announcing his departure from CNN, Lou Dobbs' is considering entering the 2012 presidential race. Even though he has never held a position in public office, the NY Daily News reports that during a recent radio interview he revealed his idea. Dobbs is quite an outspoken critic of the nation's immigration policies and these unwavering opinions are exactly what led to his downfall at CNN. When asked about his departure from the network, he stated: "I feel liberated. I feel emancipated. I'm exhilarated," he said. "I am looking forward to moving ahead in the public arena -- journalism, public policy and public life." which may or may not include joining the 2012 campaign. In addition to the speculation surrounding his next move, he is also considering a bid for the U.S. Senate in New Jersey.

I think it's safe to say that Dobbs' would not ease into a position of political power like fellow celebrity Arnold Schwarzenegger did. Then again, is that really even a fair comparison? Personally, I think Lou should sit back and enjoy his retirement before he starts making such big plans just yet. There's a reason that CNN asked him to step down from his position after all.
