Louis' Diner: The Best Authentic Diner in Littleton, Colorado
Louis' Diner Has a Friendly Atmosphere and Good Home Cooking
It didn't take me long to discover Louis' Diner, located in the Woodlawn Shopping Center, at the corner of Littleton Blvd. and Windermere. Shortly after it opened, my husband and I decided to check it out. We weren't disappointed.
Louis' Diner in Littleton, Colorado Has Great Prices
If you're looking for a great place to eat that won't break the bank, Louis' Diner is a good option. Many menu items are available a la carte, which is great for kids, senior citizens and others with small appetites. At the time of this writing, one pancake cost $1.69 and a single egg will only set you back $0.85. Coffee is priced much lower than many restaurants at $1.35, with unlimited refills.
My husband's favorite, biscuits and gravy, with two eggs can be had for $4.25. He generally orders a side of bacon, for an additional $2.15. I typically order an omelet (average price is around $5.50).
The highest priced item on the menu is an 8-oz rib eye steak, served with a baked potato, Texas toast, and soup or salad for only $8.49.
Louis' Diner in Littleton, Colorado Has a Great Sense of Community
Besides the fact that the place is always busy and the prices are great, another thing that really strikes me about Louis' Diner is the sense of community. It's obvious that many of the patrons are regulars, who not only know the staff of the restaurant, they also know each other.
Here are a couple things that I've observed, while quietly sipping my coffee:
People Care
On my last visit, I overheard bits and pieces of conversations, which let me know that a family member of one of the waitresses recently had a stroke. During the hour I was there, five different individuals or groups of people asked the waitress how the ill family member was doing. A couple of people gave her a hug. It's not every day that you see that type of connection in a restaurant.
People Belong
As new individuals or groups of people enter the restaurant, another patron may wave, and shout out something to them such as, "We gotta stop meeting like this." It's obvious many of them know each other, and something tells me they met at Louis' Diner.
Part of my enjoyment when dining at Louis' Diner comes from people watching, and overhearing conversations that can only be shared in the midst of community. On one occasion, an older gentleman came in with a pumpkin cheesecake he had made. He asked the waitress for plates so he could share the cheesecake with others.
Louis' Diner is filled with regular customers who have found not only great food at great prices; they've also found a place where they belong. Something tells me if I were retired myself, I would be one of those regulars who would shout out words of greeting as people walked through the door.
