Louisville Music: Local Original Music Venues

Louisville has always had a great music scene, although it is not as booming as it once was. Support for the Louisville music scene has waned in Louisville, although it is getting stronger with more and more venues opening their doors to letting Louisville original bands perform.

If you like checking out original music and want to see some of the best local original bands, here are some venues that have original music on a regular basis.

Phoenix Hill Tavern: On Baxter Avenue in the Highlands, Phoenix Hill tavern has been a long time supporter of the Louisville music scene. There are many different areas to this bar including a stage downstairs, a karaoke area, an outside deck with a DJ spinning, a stage upstairs, and another room for bands to play upstairs. They have local original bands in on a weekly basis.

Uncle Pleasant's: Uncle Pleasant's is a bar/music hall that features some Louisville music but usually to perform with a national act. They are located on Preston St and have two bars, one in the front room, and one in the back room with the stage and billiards tables.

Main Street Lounge: Main Street Lounge has recently made a switch in their style and they offer local original bands on Wednesday nights. They have two bars, one in the room with the stage and one in the room with the pool tables and lounge areas. Main Street Lounge is located on Main Street and also has a patio for people to enjoy the outside night air.

Bulldawg Cafe: Bulldawg Cafe is in Fairdale and is an all ages venue. They are huge supporters of Louisville music. They have shows regularly and serve non-alcoholic beverages and food. Their shows are usually on the weekends.

Wicks Pizza: Wicks Pizza Parlor is on Baxter Avenue in the Highlands and have been long time supporters of Louisville music and other performers. They have two bars. One in their "pub" styled room, and the other in the room with the stage. They have an original rock Thursday, where original Louisville rock bands perform, and Kimmet and Doug, a well known Louisville music act, perform there every Tuesday.

Headliners: Headliners is a music hall on Lexington Road and is usually used for national act performances. However, some large local shows are thrown there with an array of Louisville music. You can also catch local original bands there opening for the National Acts.

Expo 5: Expo 5 is an airplane hangar turned performance hall on seventh street. Attached to the seventh street flea market, this huge venue is used for many types of shows, but is starting to feature more shows involving Louisville music. They serve food and beverages, and feature one bar that is separate from the stage area. The bar room also has a small stage.

Big Dave's Outpost: Big Dave's Outpost is on Bardstown Road across from Body Art Emporium. It's another great venue where you can catch some Louisville music. There is a stage on the first floor for bands to perform on, and during the summer there are performers outside on the deck as well. Big Dave's also has a separate room and bar upstairs that sometimes features a performance but requires a cover charge.
