The Third Studio Album by Angels & Airwaves

LOVE, the third studio album by alternative rock band Angels & Airwaves, was released on February 14, 2010, Valentine's Day. Due to corporate underwriting, it was released free of charge and is currently available on the band's website as a free download.

LOVE opens with an instrumental track that sets up the rest of the album to have a very space rock feel to it, as if the band was transmitting a message from space, a message of hope and love in times of loneliness and despair. Many of the following tracks may allude to the movie, Love, also released by Angels & Airwaves.

The next track, The Flight of Apollo, continues the space rock atmosphere while introducing the usual energy associated with rock music and balances the two by alternating between one and the other. Though the meaning of the song is a little vague, it gives the general sense that though things may not go the way we plan, things generally end up alright in the end.

Young London has more of the rock flavor and conveys the message that we are all human and make human mistakes, and instead of pondering over our mistakes we should let them go and enjoy our lives while we can.

Shove retains the space rock feel that permeates throughout the album. This track revolves around the suddenness of falling in love and the support that a friend can offer in times of loneliness.

Epic Holiday repeats the message first brought up in Young London of life as one big holiday. Fighting and bickering are just a waste of time, and life should be enjoyed before time is lost and we are all dead.

While the next two tracks, Hallucinations and The Moon-Atomic, have messages that are quite vague, the following track, Clever Love, is apparently a love song. It is not so spectacular and sounds like your typical love song, just a little spacier.

The next track, Soul Survivor, breaks away from the love song mood of the previous track. Though its message is also quite vague, it seems to cry out for more from life than what it has to offer.

The final two tracks, Letter to God, Part 2 and Some Origins of Fire, wrap up the album with messages pertaining to life in general and the daily routines that people fall victim to. There are also allusions to how we once knew how to live life as children but have somehow lost that ability as time went on.

Throughout the album, it feels as if Angels & Airwaves are talking to their listeners from a perspective of better knowing and understanding, as if they have found the answer to all the questions to life. This is probably due to the space rock feel of the album.

Overall, LOVE is a pretty solid album, though some of the tracks can feel pretty generic and may start to sound the same. It may help to view the album as one long track rather than a set of individual tracks tied together by a common theme.
